I was really happy to get these towelletes in my Birchbox a few months ago. The first time I had heard of them was a fair few months prior to this, on Youtube, probably even before the brand was bought over to the UK. I'd only heard good things so I figured that it would be really nice to finally test them out for myself.
These hypoallergenic facial towelettes contain cucumber and aloe vera to cleanse, remove makeup and nourish skin. They are paraben free and made of 95% natural product.
They work just like any other face wipe would. Generally I'm not a face wipe kind of girl. To me they just don't seem to clean the face very well. I'm happy to use them in the first stage of cleansing, to remove all my makeup, but I will always go back and double cleanse afterwards to remove all the daily grime. Sometimes face wipes feel quite drying and stripping which is another reason they don't particularly float my boat. But as I say, I was happy to use them as a first step to cleaning my face.
The first time I used these towelletes I had a face full of makeup. I was intrigued to find out how well it removed all traces of what I was wearing. To test this I was simply going to wipe my face down with the towel and then go in with my usual makeup remover on a cotton pad afterwards to see if there was any residue. But honestly it never really got to that stage. After one wipe all over the face and neck my skin began to sting. Immediately I panicked and went to wash my face with my usual cleanser to remove any residue left from the towel. This scared me off trying them again for a while, but eventually I thought I would give them another go. They didn't sting so much the second time but there was definitely a light tingling sensation going on.
I left it another few weeks, which brings us up to a couple of days ago when I tested them for the final time. Consensus - my skin was burning. I used the towel to remove the eye makeup I was wearing as well as my general foundation and it really began to sting. Obviously my first instinct was to wash my face again and get the rest of the product off, which is what I did. But in fairness I really don't get why I'm reacting so badly to these wipes. If they are practically 100% natural, hypoallergenic and all the rest of it, why is it causing me so much hassle?
Needless-to-say I won't be using these wipes again now, and obviously won't be purchasing them in the future. If you've had the same reaction and know what it might be that I'm having an issue with, please do let me know in the comments below.
