After enjoying using the bows from my set of Nail Art Nail Tattoos the other day to create a cute french manicure, I was inspired to do bird version too. I did a guest post on Kat's blog about ombre nails a little while back now, but never actually featured it on my own blog. After getting such a great response to it last summer, I had an idea to do a beach/sunset themed version with more intricate nail art but never really got round to doing it. But with these nail tattoos sitting in my draw waiting to be used, there really was no excuse.
The design is so quick and easy to do. It literally takes 5-10 minutes, but when done neatly, it can look like you've spent ages creating a really pretty effect.
The important thing about doing ombre nails is to really soak the sponge in nail polish and use quite pigmented colours (this really won't work with a bunch of milky shades). Simply layer the colours up in lines on the sponge so that they all merge into one another and there's no gaps. Then simply pat it down onto the nail and repeat this over and over. Stippling the sponge up and down the nail slightly will also help to blend the colours together and give a prettier finish. (There's a step by step guide in my post on Kat's blog, linked above).
After that is done, I chose one of my birds from the tattoo pack and placed that onto my baby finger. To finish it off I quickly used my black nail art pen from Topshop to create a dotted path where the bird had flew - a little like the design in my header actually. And voila! Nail art was complete.
If you want a neat finish, I would definitely recommend applying tape around the edge of the nail so that you can simply peel this off when it's done. I didn't do that this time as I was feeling pretty lazy. Therefore I ended up having to do a clean up job with some remover and a cotton bud.
Either way I'm still really happy with the outcome and I hope you give this a go too.
Let me know if you've done any quick and easy nail art tutorials as I'd love to give them a go myself :)
