Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 705 Let's Get Naked

When Rimmel relaunched their Moisture Renew Lipstick line with a new formulation there was a lot of buzz and hype created around it by bloggers and vloggers alike. The most popular shade seemed to be Let's Get Naked, a nude like no other.

Having never tried the original line, I was intrigued as to what the lipsticks would be like in general. A lot of people were saying how much they liked them. Therefore, when the opportune moment came to purchase one with discount, I went ahead picked the shade I'd heard so much about.

The first thing that caught my attention was the purple packaging. I liked it as it was different from all the other lipsticks I own. Having said that, it definitely gave me a high street vibe rather than high-street-acting-more-luxurious vibe which is what brands like Revlon generally give off. Their Lip Butters and Super Lustrous Lipsticks are some of Revlon's products to name a few which feel and look more pricey than they really are.

Having not looked at this in store before I ordered it online, I actually found that the shade was a lot different to what I had originally anticipated. I imagined a very soft and subtle nude pink. What I actually received was quite a punchy pink/peach. I was still very happy with the colour - just startled at the pop it gives off.

With regards to the 'moisture renew' properties, I cease to agree. In my eyes this lipstick is not even remotely moisturising. After I'd worn it for around half an hour my lips already felt dry and uncomfortable. To counteract the problem, I decided to layer a Burts Bees Lip Balm over the top and this seemed to give the lipstick the moisture is really lacked. The product then wore a lot nicer and the colour lasted a fair while too.

But realistically, when a lipstick is marketed with a moisture renew property you shouldn't have to wear lip balm over the top of it for extra comfort. Therefore I definitely won't be buying another product from this line. I am really happy with the colour and the feel of the lipstick with the lip balm, so I will get some use out of it, but I just don't feel like it's worth the hassle of buying another shade when I can't wear it on it's own.

Have you tried anything from this line? What was your reaction?

  1. Shame to hear you didn't find it moisturising, I LOVE the moisture renew lippies and have had no problems, my fave shade being vintage pink!

  2. Well this looks a rather nice shade if I do say so myself. I feel like the only person who hasn't tried these lipsticks at the moment.
