Nuxe Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm

I am a huge lip balm addict and feel it my duty to try the best there is to offer on the market. That's why when I heard so much hype about this Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm by Nuxe I knew I had to give it the once over. Marks and Spencer had recently started to carry a new selection of beauty products including Nuxe so it ended up being an easy product to get my hands on. This was even more incentive to give it a go and see what I thought. But lets be honest about this, it's not like I really needed that much persuading.

I really love the packaging of this product. The frosted glass jar gives it a really luxurious feel. This makes it the kind of product you'd leave on a vanity and apply morning and evening instead of a carry-in-the-handbag jobbie but that works fine for me.

It smells like heaven. I personally think the scent is a lot more orange-like than the grapefruit and honey description on the box. Nevertheless it's citric, yummy and makes the process of using it a lot more pleasurable.

It applies really smoothly - like a thick paste-type consistency. But don't be alarmed by the paste comment, it melts into the lips perfectly and leaves you with a soft balm feeling that I really enjoy.

My issue with using this product in the evening regards the way that it settles on the lips. I often wake up in the morning with a line of product where my mouth closes which is borderline gross. It's not a case of putting too much on either because I use it quite sparingly. Having said this, you do wake up with the softest lips known to man-kind.

I've read reviews saying that the texture of the balm can change with age and become slightly more gritty. I can't comment back on this as it's not happened to me yet. By the sounds of things, a little heat returns it back to its former texture anyway.

I do enjoy using this balm and feel that it works nicely for dry lip days, but I'm still not convinced that this is the best lip balm on the market. I might even like the Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment slightly better than this as it is easier to apply and even gives you a subtle tint of colour too. There is definitely a price difference but as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'. Either way, the hunt will go on I'm sure. If there are any great lip balms out there that you think I should check out, please let me know in the comments below.

This Week's Wish List (Guest Post by Fashions On Top)

Happy Thursday everyone!  My name is Elle and I run the blog Fashions On Top.  I write about anything fashion or beauty related, with a little lifestyle thrown in.  I'm excited to be guest posting on Helena's blog today, especially since I've always been a fan of reading her wish list posts.

Today I have created a wish list of ten fashion pieces that I have been loving.  Most of the pieces are more for fall, which is great since it's right around the corner.  I've also included a few fall/winter trends.  Emerald, ankle booties, and military inspired clothing.

Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Big Bang

Oh hello Rimmel London Apocalips!

How ridiculously amazing is this product and this shade?! I wouldn't normally advise skipping to the end of the post first but you really need to scroll down and see how incredible this lip product actually looks. I think I might be in love!

When I was younger I was never one for red lips. Then a makeup artist used a red lipstick on me at university and everything changed. I then started to build my collection and now have around 15 red lip products to my name. But that didn't stop me going to pick up another one and I'm so pleased that I did. Big Bang sits proudly right at the top of my classic red collection and so it should!

The packaging is lovely. At first I didn't really go for the shape of the lid but now I have completely fallen in love with it. The applicator always gives you the perfect amount of product so there's no need for second-dipping. The lasting power is incredible and it wears nicely. The shade is amazing. I'm not sure if I can put it into words how much I completely adore it. Can you tell?

It's soooo glossy - much more so than my previous shade - Celestial. It's that snow-white red that makes any simple makeup look pop. You instantly look like you've spent an hour on your makeup instead of 10 minutes. Not many products can achieve that claim. You just need it in your life. Trust me. I have nothing else to say on the matter :P

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

I bought this when I was shopping in Liberty in London with a friend. I've just finished up my Simple Age-Resisting Eye Cream and really wanted to try out something that was a little more high end. After doing a little bit of research on eye creams, I found that a lot of beauty bloggers were loving this eye treatment by Kiehls. I originally wanted something that was going to fight lines and aging as I feel that if I'm prone to any pre-aging wrinkles, it will be in that area. However the idea of intense moisture sucked me in so I had to buy it.

The first couple of times I used it I thought I was going to hate it and was really frightened that I'd just spent £20 on something I wasn't going to be able to get any use out of. However I've now settled in to how this product works and found that it's actually incredible at keeping the area under my eyes hydrated throughout the day. It makes my concealer so much more flawless and over all, I've grown to love it.

It initially looks quite scary when you open the pot. Not very often are you presented with a green cream that you plan to smear on your face, never mind around your eyes. But it is a creamy avocado treatment and therefore I did have a certain amount of expectation that it should be that colour so I went ahead to apply it anyway.

This is where my I first started to doubt that this was the right product for me. When I dabbed it under my eyes it immediately turned to a greasy texture that completely freaked me out. My face swiftly became uber shiny and no amount of dabbing with the ring finger solved the issue. My thoughts were that it was going to be creamy and sink in really quickly but this just wasn't the case. However I pushed forward and ended up just leaving it for a little while to see if the skin would absorb the product by itself. The shine seemed to go down dramatically so I went ahead to apply my makeup.

This is when I really realised that this product was a keeper. With my Simple Eye Gel I still got the slightly dry look when I applied any concealer underneath my eyes. It wasn't anything major and a stranger probably wouldn't even notice but too me it was obvious. However this time I applied my concealer and it still gave me amazing coverage but without any of the drying. It almost looked like I'd applied another layer of skin. It was due to the intense moisture in the eye cream that made my already holy grail products even more amazing. This is what really sold the eye treatment in my mind. From there on I was happy to keep applying this cream and trying not to fret through the greasy first stages as the pay out later was incredible. You barely need any product to hydrate your whole under-eye area so this product, although being the smaller of the two tubs sold, is going to last me forever.

So if you do decide to try this eye treatment, I would definitely be wary of the fact that you might freak out initially over the texture. But have no fear because this product is definitely worth the hype and completely worth the money in my eyes.

Haul - Miss Selfridge, River Island, Zara and more! (Guest Post by Just Me And Fruit Tea)

Hi all, I’m Kelly from lifestyle blog Just Me and Fruit Tea. First of all I’d like to say a big thank you Helena for featuring my haul on her blog. I hope you guys enjoy reading it!

So, last weekend I hit my nearest city centre and had a good ol’ shop. For me, renting in London straight from University and running a car whilst supporting a serious addiction to exercise means I feel guilty about spending too much money and don’t do it very often. But a shopping spree was definitely on the cards and I am extremely pleased with what the high street had to offer.

First up, I hit TKMaxx. Anyone who shops there will know it is incredible for finding some bargains - if you know what you’re looking for, or if you have hours to spend browsing. My excuse was the latter. I spent an hour and a half and it took 3 trips to the fitting rooms before I headed to the checkout!

The first dress I picked up is actually amazing. I never used to be a dress person but am being converted and bought two from TKMaxx on this trip. This is a satin, ruched number that is a caramel colour with black pattern and a cut out mesh design at the top. This didn’t look like much on the hanger but looks incredible on and makes me look 2 sizes smaller than I actually am! I googled the label and the dress is from London Times - a US site whose endless gorgeous dresses retail at around $85/£55, making my purchase at £35 an absolute steal.

The second dress I picked up is another flattering one. It is fitted but not bodycon, meaning there is a little forgiveness for those who don’t have the perfect figure (cough, me). It is a gorgeous electric blue colour and I absolutely love it. I got it for a mere £14.99, but it retails from Glamorous for £24.

Ok, time for dress three. This was from Miss Selfridge – actually one of my favourite shops style-wise but I rarely shop there due to price. I love having a look at their sale stuff and am always in hope that I can grab a great bargain! This time I was lucky. I got this gorgeous pastel blue dress for only £20. I’m calling it my princess dress. I really love the lace detailing on it and it can be dressed down for work and would make a really cute outfit for a BBQ, so I will definitely be wearing this one a lot.

Next I headed to River Island which is usually a hit and miss place for me. I was lucky enough to find this cute pair of flats on the sale stand for just £15.

I am loving the midi rings trend at the moment and River Island have some of the best I’ve seen, so I picked up a couple. They were only £2 each, so you could really have fun mixing and matching them. I also got this pack of 5 assorted ear cuffs for just £5.

I was not content with just the one pair of shoes so I headed to New Look, where I can normally find tons of pairs I like. I was a bit disappointed that none of the heels were appealing to me, but I did find these great black boots with cut out detailing. These are completely on trend and were only £28.

If you haven’t discovered them yet, have a look at the perfumes in Zara. I picked up a bottle of this Black Amber for only £7.99, and it smells just as great as the more high-end retailing perfumes for only a fraction of the price.

Thanks again Helena for hosting my haul, head over to my blog Just Me and Fruit Tea for more posts from me!

Birchbox Review - Montibel.lo Gold Oil Essence

How do I begin to tell you how much I love this hair oil? I have no idea. It gives you everything that you could ever want from a product like this - shine, weightlessness, a heavenly scent... Get this baby on your beauty wish list for sure!

I was really intrigued when I got this product in my Birchbox this month - not only because InStyle had picked it as one of their two products featured in this month's box. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Lil' Lip pencil they chose but they've sure got it spot on with this hair oil in my eyes.

I curled my hair and then popped a bit of this through to tame any fly aways and give my waves a sleek and shiny look. As soon as I poured the smallest amount of this onto my hands the smell was heavenly. Oh it just smells like something fantastic that I can't put my finger on. It's sweet and gorgeous and I love it! It did an amazing job at taming the wild hairs too. I ended up with a really sleek do that didn't look remotely greasy at all.

As the day went on, I felt the need to top up on the oil which was a little strange. Generally if you do this with an oily product, you'll end up with hair so greasy that a shower is called for immediately. However this product came across as more of a dry oil to me and therefore adding a little bit more was no issue whatsoever. I only ran the product through the ends of my hair and they instantly look revitalised and smooth once more.

I definitely don't mind topping up with this during the day as it's such a pleasant product to use. However I don't think that this will be required of everyone. I have extremely thick hair and it was having a particularly unruly day. If you have thinner hair, I can imagine that one application would be plenty.

I definitely can't recommend this product enough and will certainly be repurchasing it when I run out.

Empties #2

I've finally got round to doing my second empties video. It seems that I finish products a lot quicker than I realised! Either that or I finish everything all in one go and then it will be ages until I finish up something else. Who knows?

I've done a little mini review on everything and if I would buy it again or not. I hope that you can find something that interests you and maybe you would like to try out :)

Let me know what you're using at the moment and loving in the comments below. Have a lovely weekend!

This Week's Wish List (Guest Post by Autumn Leaves)

Hiiii! I'm Rebecca-Louise from Autumn Leaves - a UK Beauty Blog. Although I love all things beauty, I'm quite the shopaholic and will always have a million and one items of clothing/shoes/accessories that I want... so when Helena asked me to guest post, I jumped at the chance (any excuse for a spot of online-window shopping!).

This dress is from Choies.com, a website that I'm totally new to but have been in touch with via my blog. It's got free worldwide shipping (15-20 days for delivery) and such a huge selection of items that it took me ages to finally decide on this. I'd definitely team it with just a pair of black leggings or disco pants as it is a little short to be worn alone. I just love the skater style but that it's layered for a unique twist. It's in the sale too!

The cut out boots/frilly ankle socks combo is a trend that I love but haven't quite got my hands on yet! I've always been an ankle socks and boots kinda girl to toughen up a floaty dress, but there's something about cut out boots that I really like. Every year I invest in a good pair of boots and I'm pretty sure these Topshop ones will be the ones!

Accessories for this look would have to be a floral headband (but would someone please stop me from buying anymore?!)... being blonde, I've found that almost all of these headbands/floral crowns suit me so I've got a fair few in my collection now, but none in black like this one from River Island! And a satchel, this time from Asos.com - my favourite small black bag recently broke after a long relationship with myself so I'm on the hunt for the right one that will go with just about everything and this looks like the one!

What do you think of the pieces I chose? How would you style the dress? :)

Thanks to Helena for letting me guest post!!!

Birchbox Review - Laqa & Co. Lil' Lip in Ring of Fire

Birchbox collaborated with InStyle magazine this month, although the collaboration wasn't quite what I expected. InStyle only ended up picked two products for the box - one of which was this little baby. I've never heard of the Laqa & Co brand before but I was certainly excited to try it considered that InStyle had handpicked the product themselves.

The packaging is pretty simple. I like that the pencil is a twist up to save on sharpening. This tester size is also an amazing size for keeping in your bag or travelling with.

The colour isn't quite what I expected. I imagined it to be more of a bold red but there is definitely a soft touch to the colour, with the slightest hint of pink. When I first swatched the pencil it felt extremely soft - almost too soft! I wondered if it was going to smear absolutely everywhere and make a huge mess. Thankfully this was not the case. It applied like a dream, as you'd expect. As recommended, I filled my lips in from the edges inwards and was left with semi-matte finish.

As the day wore on, the lipstick naturally wore off and was looking a little bite worse for wear without any touchups throughout the day. However the colour stay was reasonable. It did dry out my lips a little so I feel that instead of wearing this on it's own, it would be nice coupled with something else. If you popped a red lipstick over the top of this (NYC Expert Lip in Red Flame for example), I think that the colour would stay all day and look really amazing. Having said that, even just popping some lip balm over the top every now and again would have done the job.

To round up, it's not my favourite lip product and I will probably be reaching for other items over this one - especially since I have a huge variety of red lip products to choose from. But honestly, it is a good product thats comfortable to wear and has good pigmentation. If the colour was slightly darker I might be more sold on it but for now it's probably going to go to the bottom of my makeup bag for a while and stay there.

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Eye Shadow Paint in 006 Rich Russet

I've been waiting for these paints ever since LilyPebbles mentioned them a while back in her Youtube video.

I've never been one for eye shadows because I find that they always crease on my oily lids. You could say, 'well, have you tried using a primer?' and the truth is that I haven't. I simply decided a long time ago that the look wasn't for me and that it wasn't worth the faff. I have stuck to that sentiment for a long while and never really felt like I was missing out. I like my makeup to look really natural and minimalistic for the most part anyway. I spurred off once and tried a Maybelline Colour Tattoo which still creased on me so I decided to pull away for good.. until now.

These lovely little paints are super simple to use and although they come in limited shades, I have high hopes that there will be more added to the line. But the important thing is, so far no creasing!

The packaging is quite cute and simple. I like that you don't have to go sticking your finger in any tubs to get the product out, like you would with a tattoo. Having said that, I think that the applicator is probably the weirdest thing I've come across. Is it a brush? Is it a doe-foot? I have no clue because it holds so much product it's impossible to tell. The applicator wand is always so clogged with paint that I have to dab a bit on my eye lids and then blend it out with my fingers. If I tried any smudging with the wand, I'd end up with enough product on my eyelids to coat up to my forehead hairline! Not exactly the look I was going for.

without and with flash

But it works really well. I apply a little across the lid and it gives me a subtle easy wash of shimmer that I'm perfectly happy sporting on it's own. I think these products are perfect for makeup beginners that are just starting out with eye shadow and want an easy, fuss-free look. They are ridiculously easy to wash off. A little bit of water is all you need to remove these paints, yet they have such great staying power. I'm tempted to go back and pick up the silver as I think that a sheer wash of sparkle on the lids would look really flattering. I'm not sure I'm sold on the other colours which consist of purple, grey and gold. If you've tried them and liked them, please let me know in the comments below :)

John Frieda Frizz Ease Glossing Mist

I recently did a little bit of a beauty swop with Kelly from Just Me And Fruit Tea. We both created a list of items we weren't using and wanted to swap so that the other person could pick items they were interested in trying. I picked this John Frieda Frizz Ease Glossing Mist which was obviously going to be mine as soon as I saw it on the list. Anything that gives your hair shine and makes it look gloriously healthy has my name written all over it. I also like the colour that my hair turns when the light hits it and glossing mists like this one only intensify that.

The product was just over 2/3 full when I received it, so there was plenty of spray left for me to test out thoroughly. Turns out that, surprise surprise, I love it just as I thought that I would.

I has a beautiful smell which I can't put my finger on. I thought it smelt like grapes for a little while but it's generally got quite a sweet and slightly fruity scent. You spray this from approximately 25cms away onto dry hair and the thin oil-like solution lightly mists over your locks to create a mirror shine whilst also taming your fly-aways and making your desired style more sleek. It's important that you spray this at arms length to avoid running the risk of your hair looking more greasy that healthy.

What I really love is that you can use this product two days in a row. I generally find that if I use a shine spray the day I wash my hair, there is no way I can dose up on the second day without my hair looking like it hasn't been washed for a week. This product is light enough to use two days running and still makes your hair look incredible.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone like me who loves their hair looking glossy and smelling great - so that's everyone basically! It's pretty affordable and easy to get your hands on, so over all it's an all round win :)

The Edge of Beauty in Pure Beauty Mag!

I've been featured in Pure Beauty magazine this month and on their website! So excited!

Pure Beauty is the beauty retail industry's leading monthly. Unfortunately you can't buy it off the shelf. There is a year subscription on their website for £30 or you can read it online each month through their site.

This month's issue was a male grooming special so I definitely recommend getting the men in your life to have a scan.

In the August issue, I wrote a mini review of the Nuxe Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm which I will be reviewing on my blog at the end of the month in more detail. I was featured on their website as well where you can read a little bit about my blogging journey so far and my favourite beauty product of the moment.

I just want to say a huge thank you to Pure Beauty for featuring me in their magazine. It was such an exciting opportunity as a Magazine Journalism graduate and an aspiring beauty journalist.

Banana and Strawberry Chia Smoothie

To make this smoothie you will need:

1 Banana
1/2 Cup of Strawberries
1 Cup of Almond/Soya Milk
1 Tbsp of Chia Seeds
Optional: Ice cream (Not healthy but very tasty)

Pop everything into a blender pulse until everything is mixed. Then enjoy straight away :)

This is the simple drink I decided to make with my Chia Seeds from July's Birchbox. There are tonnes of different recipes and meals you can pop these seeds into. They are pretty tasteless but add 5g of fibre and 2g of plant protein per tablespoon to your meal/drink.

This is definitely a quick and easy drink to make with breakfast. But be sure to drink it immediately as 10 minutes after the seeds hit liquid, they start to release a soluble fibre which forms a gel. Wait too long and you'll end up with a gelatin-like drink!

August Birchbox!

It's back again! Birchbox is now 8 months in! I can't believe how quickly it's going. It's crazy! In a couple of weeks we will be into September and it will only be 3 and a half months until Christmas!! What?!

This month Birchbox collaborated with InStyle which turned out to be not what I expected. I thought all the products were going to be chosen by the InStyle team but it turns out that they only picked two. I think it's a bit of a shame but what they did pick was lovely :) Anyways, I won't spoil it for you any more and let you watch away.

Happy viewing and speak to you tomorrow!

OOTD - 13/08/13 ft. Dogeared Make A Wish Heart Reminder Necklace

Today I wanted to share with you a gorgeous necklace that I got from So Charming. They sell all different types of jewellery from well known brands, but I was instantly drawn to the Dogeared jewellery as I've been a massive fan for years now. I love how dainty they make their jewellery, I love all the designs and I especially love that there is a meaning behind each piece. I've had two of their bracelets before but never had anything that's permanent. The bracelets were string and snapped off when the wish came true, whereas this necklace* is sterling silver and can be worn forever.

The idea behind this line of jewellery is to make a wish as soon as you put on your necklace. Every time you wear the necklace, you should remind yourself of that one wish that you made the first time you wore it. The more you believe in the wish and the more than you wear the necklace, the closer you will be to the wish coming true. I love that sentiment.

If you haven't checked out Dogeared jewellery before or the So Charming website, I would definitely recommend having a snoop as they carry some beautiful pieces. They sell some really cute scarves that I have my eye on as well. The customer service was incredible and I'm so pleased with this gorgeous new addition to my everyday ensemble.

Here's how I styled it with my new blouse :)

Zara Blouse - £15.99 - As seen in my haul
H&M Strap Top - £3.99 - As seen in my previous OOTD
River Island Leggings - Can't remember price - As see in my previous OOTD
