TRESemmé Heat Defence Styling Spray

I've had this product in my draw for what seems like forever now. I have absolutely no idea why I've never reached for it before. My mum went out on a frantic product trip for me just before my holidays one year, as I had realised I didn't have any heat protection spray I could take with me. She brought back a selection of products for me to choose from and this one just got pushed to the back of the group.

But I see TRESemmé product rave reviews everywhere! Everyone seemed to have used the heat protection spray at least one point in their beauty blogging life. Therefore I figured I had nothing to lose. It was already sitting there in my draw, so one day I decided to actually pick it up and test it out. Suddenly I realised what everyone was raving about.

The TRESemmé Heat Defence Styling Spray protects your hair from heat of hairdryers and styling tools. What I was really curious about was how well this worked on dry hair. It states in the directions that you are to use it on damp hair before blow drying. This is my normal method of use. But what's different from everyone else is that I don't then go on to reapply the heat protectant before straightening my hair. I see many girls spritzing their hair before using their styling tools but whenever I have done that in the past, the product ended up making my hair incredibly greasy. Therefore I was specifically interested in testing this spray out on dry hair to see how it would perform.

I was actually really pleasantly surprised. The spray smells quite pleasant, although not as good as the likes of Tigi or Catwalk. It distributed finely and evenly into my hair through the nozzle which I was impressed with. But overall it made my hair feel very sleek and smooth. It worked brilliantly on both wet and dry hair, but especially once I had straightened my hair with my GHDs. My locks didn't feel thick and greasy with product like it had done in the past. It simply felt lightweight, healthy and smooth.

With regards to it's other claims, I agree that it helps prevent hair from being dry and dull. Overall my hair feels a lot more manageable. The spray adds shine which you know I'm a huge fan of as it always improves the look of any style. It somehow makes my hair look more nourished too. I think this is perhaps due to the fact that I should have been using a heat spray when styling for many years now, and suddenly I've realised using one before styling as well as blow drying really does make a difference.

I'm honestly really happy with this product and can see myself repurchasing the full size so that I can make it a full-time part of my haircare routine.

Have you tried this spray? What did you think?

  1. This is actually the only heat protector I've ever used so I don't have much to compare with, but it seems to do the trick and it smells nice. I don't quite understand all the raving comments, but it's probably because I don't have any other products to compare with - seems I hit the jackpot straight away :O) Xx

    1. I think that's a major selling point - how lightweight it is. I'm not overly taken by the scent myself but it's ok :) xxo
