Rimmel Moisture Renew Lip Liner in 001 Transparent

At first I thought this was going to be a simply amazing product. I wasn't sure how it worked but I knew this was a lip liner that would go with all of my lipsticks, and hydrate my pout at the same time. That's exactly how it made it's way into my basket at Boots. But when I got it home, it went into my bag of products to test out and hasn't been seen since.

Every time I went to reach for it I just didn't understand it's purpose. The pencil doesn't feel at all moisturising when you run it over the skin. It's completely transparent so I didn't see how lining your lips without a colour would be benefical. I thought lip lining was to do with keeping your colour neat and tidy so applying something clear wasn't really going to help. However I was wrong. After a little bit of research I realised exactly how beneficial this product really is and it has now become a staple piece in my makeup bag.

The aim of the Moisture Renew Lip Liner is to create a barrier around the edge of your lips. This helps to stop the colour you apply afterwards from bleeding out of the lines of your pout. Because it's transparent, you don't have to worry about being neat with application but it really does the job wonderfully. It's meant to help with locking your lipstick in place so that it lasts all day too.

I still get rather confused about the 'Moisture Renew' claim. I don't find this extremely hydrating when I put it on, but I've had no problem with my lipstick drying out either. I tend to fill in the middle of my lips with the liner and dab on my colour of choice afterwards, which has been the Maybelline Color Whispers. This works wonderfully for me and I do find that the colour stay is increased too.

I really like this product and find myself using it every day. It's great for prevention of bleeding colours but I'm not sure I would pick this up thinking it was going to hydrate my lips all day. That's what a lip balm's for.

  1. I've never heard of a transparent lip liner before! I'm intrigued though... it'd be perfect for those lipsticks that no matter what always bleed out a little. xx

  3. I've not seen this before and considering I don't own a lip liner at all I may go and have a look at it after work tomorrow :) I'm rather intrigued.
