Birchbox Review - Weleda Oat Replenishing Shampoo

I'm generally a girl that doesn't like sulphate-free shampoo. I wish I got on with them better, but without lather my thick hair gets into all sorts of horrific knots that take a good 20 minutes to sort out. Therefore I was almost setting myself up to try something I probably wouldn't like with this product. However I have been left surprised before, so I wanted to give this a try and see how I felt.

Unfortunately the first thing that hit me was the scent. Personally I thought it smelt like lemon industrial cleaner. Having said that, if a product does it's job well, I can just spray some hair perfume on later. But as soon as I realised that this product didn't lather either, things went down hill quite fast.

I started to massage this shampoo into my scalp and it thickened a little bit, like it was attempting to get luxurious and soapy, but then it stopped. Normally it takes me a couple of shampoos before I can really make my hair manageable, so I washed out what I could from my medusa hair-of-knots and then applied some more. The same thing happened again - it thickened, didn't really feel like it was cleaning my hair and then became a nightmare when I washed it out. My hair felt like I hadn't brushed it in years. But what's more irritating was that I then went in with my Herbal Essences Shampoo to solve the issue and within 15 seconds my hair was knot free and back to normal! Go figure.

It's nothing against the product itself, but I simply don't get on with sulphate-free shampoos and feel like other girls with thick hair will be the same.

What's interesting though is that this shampoo is described as 'ideal for hair in need of extra nourishment and moisture' on their website, but I completely disagree. Honestly, my hair has never felt more dry.

I think it's fair to say that I don't recommend this product. Having said that, I understand that products react differently with everyone, so please do comment below and let me know how you got on if you gave this a go.

  1. I'm so glad you thought this too!! I ended up using half of the tube just to get it to reach all the parts of my my hair as it's so hard when it won't lather and it just felt awful and my hair was so knotty. My hair is really fine and baby-soft so I don't think it was just your thick hair that was the problem! Like you, I reached for a normal foaming shampoo and within a minute it was back to normal. I really hated this!!

  2. Ive tried a Weleda shampoo but the one with the green bottle and I found exactly the same. It barely lathered and I ended up washing out with a different shampoo xx

    1. That's interesting. Though I guess if they are all sulphate free, the problem will be the same. It's such a shame because I know sulphate free is so much better for your hair and the environment but I just can't make it work for me. Thanks for letting me know how you got on :) xxo
