Birchbox Review - Beauty Blender

I have no clue why it has taken me so long to try out my Beauty Blender. I got it in a Birchbox months back now and only really pulled it out recently to give it a proper once over. Maybe it's because the first time I tried it, I didn't bother reading up about it too much and therefore used it dry - rookie error. Tip 1: always dampen your Beauty Blender before use.

Once I got this fact under control, there was no stopping me. The first time I tried the Beauty Blender damp, I was incredibly surprised how well my makeup applied. I used my Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation which is quite thick, full coverage and certainly long wearing. You shouldn't put this foundation anywhere you don't want it because it's got amazing staying power. Example? I put a bit on my hand to dab my sponge into and it's always impossible to get the remainder off without scrubbing or using makeup remover. Great testimony to the foundation. The point of this story? If a Beauty Blender sponge can apply such 'heavy' foundation and make it feel as light as air and as natural as a second layer of skin, props must be given. Tip 2: apply a little at a time in dabbing/stippling motions onto the skin.

I get super anxious about the sponge though, which is completely unexplainable. My worry is that all the bacteria is going to gather in it and make applying my foundation very unhygenic. But the fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter what I apply my foundation with, if I don't clean it I'm going to get spots. This includes brushes. Nevertheless, I use my Beauty Blender Cleanser after every use of the sponge and I feel that it keeps my fretting at bay. Tip 3: get the Beauty Blender Cleanser - it's ridiculously amazing at cleaning the sponge AND brushes.

Over all, I really love my sponge. I know that some people simply can't get along with the Blender but I just think it's amazing. As long as you stipple, have a light hand and clean your tool regularly you should have no problems. I've found a new beauty love and I feel that it's going to be a long and happy friendship.

  1. I've had mine for a while and love it! I also have te Blender Cleanser which I agree is good for the sponge and all my other brushes too!

  3. I have the same fear as you if it being unhygienic and I also suffer with spots so wouldn't want to play around with that! I don't think I could clean it after every use as the lazy takes over, so maybe I'll skip on this one. Thanks for sharing though! Great review. xx

    1. It only takes two seconds to give it a quick clean after you've used it. It's as quick as washing your hands really. Definitely wouldn't want the bacteria to build up in it though :) xxo
