#2 I wouldn't recommend...

Hey everyone! Today I'm back with the second post in my I wouldn't recommend series. Thankfully it takes me a while to gather up a bunch of products for one of these posts. For the most part I really enjoy what I purchase but occasionally the odd anomaly slips through the mix.

I got great feedback on my last post so if you want to read that, you can check it out here. Otherwise, lets get straight into it!

The first product is Lee Stafford's Dehumidifier. You all know that I've been slowly working my way through a large range of Lee Stafford products after my boyfriend gifted me some. It's far to say that some I've really liked, such as the Poker Straight Shine Serum and the Dry Shampoo, and some I've not taken so well too, such as the Argan Oil Shine Spray and this one too.

The reason why this product doesn't work for me is that it makes my hair incredibly greasy. If I have just washed my hair and then I spray this on, it makes it look like I haven't wash my hair for over a week. I'm not really too sure why this happened or how the product is mean to work. All I know is that I'm glad I've tried it and I'll be sticking to the other Lee Stafford products that I enjoy a lot more.

As soon as I spotted this product in Boots I just knew I had to have it. I love the Photoready Mascara and know there is a lot of hype around the foundation. Therefore I figured this Color Stay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Womanswear would be the perfect opportunity to get my mitts on more of the line and this product seemed to be completely up my street.

Unfortunately as soon as I applied it it went down hill from there. At first it felt really smooth and lovely on the lips. However after the first 10 minutes my lips got seriously sticky and dry. They were uncomfortable and nothing I could do was helping. I tried licking my lips (as gross as that sounds) but nothing would stop my lips from sticking together like superglue! The top layer of my lips was getting so dry that I couldn't help but chew on them.

I finally resorted to putting lip balm over the top which definitely helped in the short term, but when the balm wore off I was back to square one.

I'm not sure why I couldn't get on with this product. It seems incredible in the advert but I personally really struggled to make this work for me. I've only used this product once and had such a negative reaction towards it that I've never reached for it again. I've read a review or two that say the same as I have so I'm just happy that it wasn't just me.

If you've had the same experience, please let me know in the comments below!

I received this Tinted Lip Salve free which a magazine this month. I'm a huge fan of lip balms/butters/salves so this seemed to be right up my street. I was hoping that it was going to be a coloured version of Elemis Loving Lips Quenching Lip Balm, so it's fair to say my hopes were very high. But I'm sure you can already tell that my hopes were a little dashed.

The first time I reached for this product it had all separated in the tube. There was runny clear liquid and an orangey-pink colour running through it. I was pretty sure that this wasn't how it was meant to be. Therefore I shook it up and it seemed to cure the split liquid problem. Having said that, it was still extremely liquidy.

Wearing this on the lips just feels like they're covered in water. It's extremely wet and in all honesty not very pleasent. The product claims to 'hydrate, protect and soothe away dry patches'. I didn't see anything of the sort unfortunately. It definitely didn't solve my dry lip problem and they weren't even that bad to start with. On top of this, I saw no colour pay off. In my eyes the product seemed a little pointless.

I don't know whether I got a dodgy one or whether this product is like that in general. All I can say is that I'm not convinced I'll be using it again and I definitely feel that there are other better options in the market.

And that's all I have to share with you today :) If you've tried a product you didn't get on with so well, let me know in the comments below as I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. That Revlon product sounds terrible! x

    1. Definitely going to be sticking to their gorgeous lip butters from now on :) xxo

  2. Great post! I feel the opposite about the dehumidifier, but I think it's down to the fact I have really curly frizzy hair and when I straighten it the dehumidifier helps to smooth it! I've heard lots of bad things about the Revlon lipsticks! xx

    1. Ah! That's definitely a good point. Mines straight and extremely thick so it just made it look a mess. Can see how it might help curly hair though :) xxo

  3. Love these kind of posts they're always so helpful. I'm glad I've purchased that Revlon lipstick, every time I've read anything about them it's been negative things. The colour is pretty on you though :)

  4. Very Insightful blog! The only lip products I've used from Revlon are the lip glosses, I'm glad to know the cons about this lipstick, that does sound awful. Check out my blog!

    1. Really?! The butter are phenomenal! You need to get your hands on them stat! xxo

  5. Cool I'll have to give that a try!

  6. I'd have a list as long as my arm if I were to do a series like this! Haha, only joking - there are very few products that I actively dislike, but at the same time I have been disappointed by loads that were hyped up to be more than they actually were. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that to you before - maybe I'm just a tough customer!
Shame about those Revlon lippies as they look really nice, nothing worse than a sticky lip! I also find a lot of styling products a bit hit and miss - as a general rule, I tend to like the ones that go on my hair when it's wet, but anything that goes on when dry seems to end up making it look greasy or sticky - not a good look. And it's not that I'm heavy handed either.
Definitely going to try and get the I <3 Summer Tag done either today or at the weekend - haven't had any time to film lately, as I like to do it when the other half is out, but he's always at home when it's light! Ha.
    Mel xx
