Bedtime Hydration Routine

After I have done my skincare routine in the bathroom, I like to retreat back to my cozy before and finish off by thoroughly moisturising all of my skin. This is a new thing for me as it has taken me a while to try out different products and combinations to find out which ones work for me.

Finding your perfect routine is not a two second job. People are often under the assumption that you will pick up a bunch of products from your local supermarket and your skin will be perfect. This just isn't the case - or at least not the case for most!

I have invested a lot of time into finding the right products that work the best for me because my skin is important. I don't tend to wear a lot of make up to begin with. Therefore having nice skin is essential in my eyes. I don't want to clog up my pores by putting product after product on my face, so finding products that prevent me from doing that is a huge bonus.

I don't have clear skin by any stretch of the imagination. However I have managed to produce a complexion that makes me feel at ease with the little amount of make up I do put on. I use it to feel a little boost of confidence. I know that people don't look at me and think that I've got it caked on. I often get told that people have noticed I don't wear a lot of makeup and that's ok with me. It's what I want. I just use that little bit to make me feel comfortable. Then I have the extra products for the option to beautify myself for different occasion if I wish to.

Basically, it's all about clear and beautiful skin for me. I don't have this by any means. I have acne scarring, the occasional break out, hyper-pigmentation and the rest of it. But I have found certain products that work well for me and I stick to them.

A skincare routine will be coming soon, but for now I wanted to show you what moisturisers I use to help keep my skin feeling hydrated. I learnt the hard way that if you have oily skin, you still need to moisturise like the rest of the human population. All you need to take into consideration is that there are different types of hydration you can seek. You have to find the products that are designed for your skin type and use them in areas you feel appropriate. For example, there is no rule book saying that face moisturiser needs to be applied to the entire face. Just apply it where you need it. Mix and match and find the perfect combination for you.

Now, enough of me jabbering on. Here's the products I use, with a little summary below:

Simple - Age Resisting Eye Cream - This is the newest addition to my bedtime routine. I have gone years without using anything under my eyes, but after noticing a few fine lines I wanted to invest in something to stop premature ageing. When I say a few fine lines, I don't mean anything more than what a normal 22 year old would have. I just mean that it's better to prevent them before they occur, which is why I picked up an anti-ageing product instead of any regular joe eye cream.

I never realised that the skin under my eyes needed moisture. However I have noticed huge advantages to using this cream. My concealer now goes on smoother and doesn't look dried up and sometimes cakey. It has also helped with minor lines too. It makes me skin feel puffed out and therefore reduces the look of lines which is really lovely.

I have a long way to go before I find the perfect eye cream I'm sure. However I wanted to show you the one I'm starting off with to give you an idea if you're looking to start using eye creams too.

Mac - Mineralise Charged Water Moisture Gel - I have been using this for a long time now and have completely fallen in love with it. I have tried many moisturisers on my skin but this is the one which works the best for me. The gel consistency is perfect as it creates a different kind of hydration.

I apply this to my forehead, nose and tops of my cheeks, which is where I feel I need the most moisture. For a full review of this product, click here.

Fresh - Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose - I received this in my Birchbox and absolutely love it. I am a huge fan of lip balms to start with but this one really makes my lips feel nourished.

I would normally like to use this during the day as it gives your lips a lovely rosy tint. However I have so many balms that this one has been rehomed on my bedside table. I really enjoy using it just before bed so that I wake up with a super soft pout. For a full review of this product, click here.

Blend Collective - Concentrated Hand Cream in Sandalwood/ Frankincense/ Cedarwood and Neroli - I love this hand cream. This is by far the most moisturising hand cream I have ever come across. It takes a while for the product to soak in, and there is an extremely strong fragrance that comes with it. However I don't mind this so much because I haven't found anything that works remotely like this. It is the perfect last little touch to a truly hydrating bedtime routine.
