Dr Jart+ Premium BB Beauty Balm

The first I had heard of Dr Jart+ was when their sleeping mask burst onto the beauty scene. Until that point the name Dr Jart+ had never crossed my mind. Then suddenly it was everywhere and people were praising it on all different blogs. This is when I got offered the chance to try the Premium Beauty Balm* which is part of a long line of skincare. I saw no reason not too, since everyone seemed to love the other products by this brand (namely that sleeping mask which I would love to try!).

I've had this for a while now but it has taken me ages to get round to using it. The reason being skin issues which you will know about if you're a regular reader or follow my twitter. But I felt that now would be the perfect time to try it out as I am getting back to normal. I was interested to see how this would work on my oily skin as I find that BB Creams, much like tinted moisturisers, don't tend to stay put on my skin. Most often they look greasy which is not a desired look of mine. I have tried many versions in the past and finally fell in love with the L'oreal Nude Magique BB Cream last year which will be a tough product to beat.

Apologies about the box being a bit battered, I don't think it had a very comfy trip through the post. But then again, here it is and bar its scrapes and scratches I actually really like the design of it. I like the luxurious gold metallic finish and the fact that it comes in a box instead of just on it's own. This may seem like a waste of resources since it isn't really needed, but I recycle :)

The bottle itself is a little bit OTT. I understand that they are trying to carry the luxurious/premium feeling through but I find the way it's coated in hard plastic a little odd. It makes reading the writing on the bottle quite challenging too. However I do like that it has a pump head which is very hygienic and means that you only use the amount that you need. Waste not, want not.

The Premium Beauty Balm is the most expensive out of the range of Dr Jart+ BB Creams at £24 for 40ml. It is a one shade fits all kind of product. I will discuss that more in a moment. The Premium (SPF40) cream has a lot more benefits than the Platinum (SPF30) version. It is a low coverage cream that firms and moisturises your skin whilst acting as a sunscreen that evens out your skin tone. It further aims to brighten your skin and includes anti-ageing properties. The Platinum version gives a higher coverage but doesn't have any added properties.

I have quite fair skin and I did notice that this product was marginally too dark for me. I could get away with it but ideally I would have liked it a little lighter so that blending wasn't an issue. I applied it with my Sigma F80 brush which did a brilliant job. The cream almost looked like a second layer of skin which is a great testimony to both the product and brush. They didn't lie when they said that the product was low coverage. I still needed to apply concealer to give myself an even finish. However I felt that it was at the higher end of low coverage than literally barely anything there. You can also build this up quite well which is nice.

Throughout the day the product seemed to settle more and look quite natural. There was a slightly glossy finish which made my skin look radiant to start with but a little on the oily side towards the end of the day.

I think that the price is a tiny bit steep. Having said this, you do get a high quality product. I don't think I would personally repurchase this as I find that the L'oreal Nude Magique works better for my needs. However I can see many people trying this and loving it if their skin is normal/dry or even if you have oily skin without much acne scarring.

On that final note, if you have tried this or any of the other BB creams, leave your comments below. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it worked for you.

(Having spoken with the brand's twitter team, I have been informed that the packaging is to keep the ingredients effective for the best results.)
