JolieBox Review - Yardley Royal English Daisy Eau de Toilette

I received this perfume in my JolieBox a few days ago. As you can see, it hasn't taken me very long to get around to reviewing it. After all, I am a self-proclaimed perfume junkie and if there was ever to be a guaranteed place in the blogosphere to find a review on perfume, it would be here. Unfortunately my deep love and affection for perfume has not further blessed me with the ability to describe a scent in technical terms. Therefore you will have to bare with me as some of the descriptions below are a bit.. interesting.

Previously I was given the shower gel version of this product to try in my box and thought that it was a lovely product. Having said this, the perfume version is definitely more my style. It annoys me that the sample isn't in a small spray tube as it would be easier to test. But that is neither here nor there considering the fact that when you buy the product, it wont be a tester bottle.

To get down to the nitty gritty, here are the notes:
Top - Green leaves and apple.
Heart  - Hyacinth and white rose.
Base - Sandalwood and musk.

In my words, the scent is.. cute. Yes, I know that sounds odd. Can a scent be classed as cute? In my mind it clearly can. I don't know why but it just reminds me of youngness, freshly washed towels and great smelling shampoo (I told you to be wary of my descriptions). It's a pleasant scent but perhaps not my style for an every day perfume. If you want to know more about perfumes I tend to go for, you can look through my collection here.

If you have tried this perfume out or have at least smelt the scent, please leave a comment below with your thoughts. It would be interesting to hear if you can understand where I am coming from with the 'cute' comment.

Dior Crème De Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm

This was a bit of a luxury treat for me. After reading in a magazine that Natalie Portman uses this product and loves it, I craved it immediately. I love lip balms as you all know and thought that this was a beautiful, classy version with a lovely colour. It immediately went into my beauty wish list to which my boyfriend bought it for me as part of my graduation gift earlier this week.

When I say this is a luxury product, I mean that in the sense of it being expensive for what it is. At £20 a pot, it's verging a bit on the crazy side but I just had to have it. Realistically it is the same size as a pot of Vaseline but I didn't care. Natalie always seems to have a perfect pout and the colour of her pink lips look really lovely. I wanted that look so I wanted this product. Yes, advertisement by association really works that well on me.

When I first started using this I was a bit annoyed. It was really stiff and the product was hard to pick up. However I didn't give up hope because when I tested the balm in store it was soft and gorgeous. After a couple of uses the balm eased and has become much easier to apply. In all honesty, it just feels like Vaseline. There isn't too much colour to it at all and it doesn't do an extremely good job at moisturising my lips. Vaseline along with this product, aim to create a greasy barrier which prevents the wind getting in a drying out your lips and also make them slightly smoother. If you wanted moisture then I would really recommend Blistex Relief cream and am seriously contemplating doing a review on it.

My lips feel smoother and look more plump when I wear this so it does the job it's aimed to do. Is it worth £20? Well no, it's probably not, but that's beside the point. It was a one off treat and I am really enjoying using it whilst I have it.

Do you have any guilty treats in your makeup bag? Let me know in the comments below.

November JolieBox!

Here's my November box. Let's see what I got...

(1) Vertumne a Venus - Manucure Absolue Moisturising and Regenerating Hand Cream - Formulated with all natural ingredients, including sesame oil and pomegranate extract, this rich cream keeps hands nourished all day.

My Opinion - This seems like an alright product. The pomegranate extract should make the cream smell really lovely. However I am really disappointed that this is a sachet and indeed, that there are so many sachets in this JolieBox. There's not enough product to try out and once you have opened it you are obliged to use it. Therefore I can't tell you if it smells nice or what the texture is like because I haven't opened it. A review will be coming soon.

(2) Jane Iredale - Glow Time BB Cream - At last! A full coverage mineral-based BB Cream. The lightweight, buildable formula gives skin flawless finish and protects with SPF25.

My Opinion - This is the third Jane Iredale product I have received in my JolieBoxes. One has been good, one has been bad. This is officially the decider. First impressions? It's a sachet.. I don't like sachets! However if this is a really good product then I suppose I won't mind so much. Hopefully it leans more toward the quality of the lip stain and not the fake tan.

(3) Topicrem - Body Glitter 3D Effect - Pair this pearly cream with your best party frock. The luxe lotion gives skin a shimmery - never sparkly - sheen.

My Opinion - Ok, not to be rude but I'm not 16, so why would I want to shimmer like a disco ball. The only time I can imagine this product being relevant would be if I was going on a music video shoot or to a 90s disco. Unfortunately I am not impressed here so a review probably won't be coming of this.

(4) Dead Sea Spa Magik - Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash - This mild cleanser uses a blend of natural ingredients to purify skin without over drying. Use it mornings and evenings for a fresh, radiant complexion.

My Opinion - This is probably the best product in the box this month. I liked the lotion that I have received before and the bath salts were a nice size but I am getting a bit tired of trying the same brands over and over. I wouldn't mind if they were brands I loved but I just like them. I wouldn't go out and buy the product myself. Having said this, I will try this out and it might end up being a holy grail item - I might eat my words yet.

(5) Yardley - Royal English Daisy Eau de Toilette - Inspired by traditional English gardens, these dainty floral fragrances give you a lasting feminine scent. Spray sparingly on pulse points.

My Opinion - Another brand that I have tried before. Another brand that I wasn't overwhelmed by. However I am a HUGE fan perfumes and this sounds like a really delicate scent so I am really looking forward to trying this out. This may be one of the few products this month that gets a review.

(6) Marvis - Cinnamon Mint Toothpaste - Imported from Italy, these chic apothecary-style toothpastes come in imaginative flavours that make brushing your teeth anything but routine

My Opinion - I love cinnamon. But cinnamon mint toothpaste wound round my teeth? I'm not sure how I feel about that. I need to try it out and in honesty it is a good size so I can't complain like I have with the other items. I will review this product as well.

Over all I am not impressed with this months box. If I had a few more like this I would probably cancel my subscription, which is a lot to be said from a girl that once sang the praises of JolieBox, swearing to all other human being that it was the best beauty box in the UK. I had even higher hopes for JolieBox when I knew they had teamed up with Birchbox in the US. Unfortunately I am still waiting for the benefits of this partnership.

Graduation

I graduated earlier this week! YAYYY! The last three years of hard work at uni have come to a close and now it's time for the start of hard work for the rest of my life. Aha.

University was an awesome time in my life. I learnt a lot about myself, grew up a lot, changed a lot and learnt how to use a washing machine! I miss all the people and the independance I got used to with living away from home. However it made me realise how much I love spending time with my family and that as cheesy as it sounds, home is where the heart is.

Here are a couple of pictures from my graduation - one with one of my best friends, Becky, and one of me in my silly outfit!

The rest are presents from the boyfriend and parents. My boyfriend bought me Percy Pig Cupcake Mix, Big Bang Series 5, and Aztec Sequin Skirt from BooHoo, some Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm and the Ciate Advent Calander. My parents bought me a mortarboard pandora charm :)

Korres Lip Butter in Guava

I don't understand how I have not posted a review on this before. I have scanned my blog and I can't find it anywhere so apologies if I am repeating myself. I discovered this lip butter a while back and my opinions of it have grown over time.

I first came across it when All That Glitters spoke about it in one of her beauty videos. She claimed that it was what gave her that milky, pale pink, stunning lip that I had always wanted to achieve. She also said that it moisturised her lips at the same time which I thought was the most amazing concept ever. Not only had I been introduced to the colour of my dreams, but it was also in my favourite state as well - a balm/butter.

At this point I couldn't stand any lipsticks (though we all know that has changed dramatically). Therefore I found it very difficult to find something which gave me the colour pay off I desired. I had high hopes that this would finally give me a fabulous nude lip without leaving me looking a little, well, dead!

I ordered it from Asos and when it arrived I couldn't wait to try it out. The packaging seemed really cute and the tub was a nice size. However the butter seemed really stiff and hard to pick up on my finger. It was really sheer and because I could barely get any product to start with, the moisture payoff was pretty rubbish.

However, over time the butter softened and on warm days it was easier to apply. It gave me that milky colour but was sheer enough to avoid the disastrous washed out look. The moisture is there but it really doesn't last that long at all. You would have to reapply this every hour, on the hour, to achieve a well nourished lip. So it has its flaws. The colour doesn't last very long either which is a pain to put it politely. However I still love it and use it. I like to keep it in my bag and pop it on when I feel that I need a pick me up. I then use my Blistex Relief Cream as a general lip balm, which is extremely moisturising and gives me that temporary milky look as well.

If you have any recommendations for great lip balms, please leave them in the comments below. I am the type of girl that could never have too many and am always on the search for something new.

VO5 Smoothly Does It Frizz Free Creme

I received this product in my Cosmopolitan magazine this month. I was intrigued and excited to try it as it seemed like a type of product that I would be interested in myself. I generally haven't got along well with VO5 products in the past. I'm not overly too sure why but they always seems to make my hair feel a bit thick and weighed down. Having said this, I went into this product testing with an open mind and I am happy that I did. This is probably the best VO5 product I have tried to date.

This cream aims to protect the hair from heat whilst also aiding your straightening and general styling. All you need to do is apply a small amount of product evenly throughout the lengths of your towel dried hair and then proceed to a usual blow dry and straighten. As with all new hair products, I like to try them on their own so that I know what they are capable of without the help of any other products.

Overall the cream worked fine. My hair didn't feel frazzled, it looked sleek and the frizz was tamed. It did what it claimed it would but it just didn't wow me. It didn't make my hair super soft or shiny. Don't get me wrong, my hair still was soft and glossy, but no more than usual. It seemed to me that this was a fine product if you just wanted to pick something that did the job, but if you were looking for professional, advertisement-look-alike hair, this wasn't going to achieve that.

You can't begrudge the product because it works perfectly. On the other hand it hasn't left me wanting more.

If you received this in your magazine as well or have tried it in the past, please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts. I am always open to hearing other peoples opinions as everyone has their own experiences. What doesn't work for one person might work well for another :) Furthermore, if you have any hair product recommendations or would like me to review any products, please leave them in the comments below.

Roger & Gallet Bois D'Orange Body Lotion

I have done quite a few reviews on the Roger & Gallet brand now so I image everyone is getting very familiar with it. I am sure you have also noticed that I tend to go for the orange scented products (bar that amazing rose perfume!) So yes, yet again we have another orange skincare product. If I haven't convinced you that you need to go and smell this scent already, hopefully this will.

The Bois D'Orange Body Lotion* is pretty much what is say on the tin. One thing I would mention is that it is seriously fragrant. If you don't like lotions with a lingering smell, this is not for you. However it does mellow thorough out the day and this is such a nice scent that I can't see a problem with it myself.

I don't tend to have dry skin, but I can tell the difference if I have bothered to take the time and moisturise. When I use this, my skin feels supple and soft. It lasts about a day and then I have to moisturise again. Therefore I wouldn't say it is the longest lasting product in the world but it's such a pleasure to use that I don't mind redoing it.

It is quite thick for a lotion. I would consider it to be more of a cream consistency. It definitely feels like a luxurious product which is nice because everyone likes to feel pampered.

At  roughly £10.80 per 200ml bottle, it isn't overly expensive. That amount would last you a while so I feel that this is quite an affordable product for most people.

If you're in the market to try something new but want to feel confident that you are getting something great, this is a safe pick. Try it for yourself and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

My Perfume Collection!

As you all know, I am a huge lover of fragrance. Perfume makes me happy. I associate smells with different times in my life and to accompany that I get a beautiful bottle that I will keep forever. What is not to love other than the sometimes hurtful pricetag? I didn't want to do this post because I know that my collection will forever be expanding. However I thought that I may as well do one now whilst I can manage the amount that I have, and then next time I will just write about the new perfumes that I have. Make sense? I hope so.

I have split everything down into reasons why I have them so that you don't think I have an unhealthy perfume buying obsession. Hopefully it will make them easier to talk about as well. Speaking of which, I am awful at describing scents so I will include the notes below and tell you when I wear it :)

Presents:

Vera Wang - Lovestruck (Brother) - This was in my Christmas Gift Guide last year. Clearly my brother took notice because he bought it me for my 21st birthday. I absolutely adore this fragrance and it is my go to perfume at the moment. I am trying to use them up bottle by bottle so this is next in line.

This perfume is - Floral.
Heart notes: Tuberose, Lotus Blossom. Top notes: Pink Guava, Mandarin. Base Notes: Precious Woods, Sheer Musk.

Nina Ricci - Ricci Ricci (Boyfriend) This was also on my Christmas Gift Guide. The men in my life like to check my blog regularly when it comes to present buying. This is completely used up and I loved it whilst it lasted. I used it during the day as an every day perfume.

This perfume is - Floral.
Heart notes: Moonflower, Indian Tuberose, Centifolia, Rose. Top notes: Rhubarb, Zest, Bergamot. Base Notes: Patchouli, Sandalwood.

Paul Smith - Women (Aunt and Uncle) This was a christmas present. I love how small the bottle is. It is great for carrying around in your handbag to spritz throughout the day. I wear this during the day as it is really fresh.

This perfume is - Floral.
Heart notes: Freesia, Green Tea, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Geranium. Top notes: Clementine, Blackcurrant, Pink Pepper, Pear Leaf, Mandarin Orange, Bergamot. Base notes: Tonka Bean, Patchouli, Vetiver, Cedar.

Gucci - Rush (Brother) One of my favouite scents. This was another birthday present and is completely gone. I first smelt this when a housemate of mine at university wore it. I fell in love with it there and then. You must smell it because I garantee you will love it too. It is maybe more of an evening fragrance but I wore it regardless.

This perfume is - Fruity.

Heart notes: Jasmine, Coriander, Damask Rose. Top notes: Gardenia, Peach, Freesia. Base notes: Patchouli, Vetiver, Vanilla.

Self-purchases:

Christian Dior - Miss Dior Cherie - This perfume and one other mentioned later are my staple perfumes. I will never get tired of it which is shown by the fact that this is my 5th bottle. I have worn it for years and I always get compliments on it. It is simply stunning and the bottle is completely adorable.

This perfume is - Fruity.

Heart notes: Mandarin Orange, Wild Strawberry. Top notes: Jasmine, Rose. Base notes: Vetiver, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Oak Moss, Amber.

Victoria Secret - Heavenly Stardust - I bought this when I went to NY in my second year of university. The sales assistant twisted my arm and I'm glad that she did. Every time I smell this it takes me back to that trip. I don't think it is being sold any more but there are other great fragrances available now too.

I couldn't find much on this perfume. But it seems to be - Fruity.

Notes: Musk, Honeysuckle, Winterberry.

Gucci - Gucci Guilty - This is another fragrance that is more evening than daytime. Having said this, if I want to wear a perfume I do, so I wear this all the time. I bought it in the christmas sales one year and am thrilled that I did. Stunning fragrance and one that everyone will love.

This perfume is - Floral Oriental.

Heart notes: Peach, Lilac, Geranium. Top notes: Mandarin, Pink Pepper. Base notes: Amber, Patchouli.

Duty Free:

Giorgio Armani - Acqua Di Gioia - This was a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision. I had smelt it in a magazine a few days prior and then bought it when I went on holiday. I didn't like it too much at first but it has really grown on me and I love it now. I took it on holiday with me this year and really enjoyed wearing it. It is good for the day as it is fresh and light.

This perfume is - Aquatic.

Heart notes: Jasmine, Aquatic note. Top notes: Crushed Mint Leaves, Limone Primo Flore. Base notes: Cedarwood heart, Brown Sugar, Labdanum.

Valentino - Valentina - This is my other staple perfume. I just can not get enough of this. I could sit and smell it all day. I bought it on holiday this year but still haven't opened it yet as I am trying to use up a few of my other perfumes first. The bottle is stunning, the smell is perfect and over all it will win the heart of any girl :)

This perfume is - Floral Oriental.

Heart notes: White Floral Bouquet (Amalfi Orange Blossom, Tuberose, Jasmine), Wild Strawberry. Top notes: Calabrian Bergamot, Alba Truffle. Base notes: Amber Cedar.

Marc Jacobs - Daisy Eau So Fresh - I bought this on holiday last year. It was my first holiday with my boyfriend so he treated me to it really. I have recently finished it off and will miss it. It is a great daytime fragrance that is easy to wear and doesn't hit you in the face or insult anyone. Could be worn by every age group.

This perfume is - Fruity Floral.

Heart notes: Wild Rose, Violet, Apple Blossom. Top notes: Raspberry, Grapefruit, Pear. Base notes: Plum, Cedarwood, Musk.

Juicy Couture - Couture Couture and Christian Dior - Escale a Portofino - Juicy and Dior are purchases I regret a bit. I don't know why but I simply don't wear them. The Dior should really go in the bin now as it has yellowed a lot and the bottle isn't looking too pretty either. It's not that either of them don't smell nice. I just never reach for them on my counter. Oh well.

Juicy - Fruity Floral.

Heart notes: Star Jasmine, Blushed Plum, Honeysuckle. Top notes: Mandarin, Succulent Pink Grape Accord, Natural Orange Flower. Base notes: Moist Amber, Creamy Sandlewood, Vanilla Extract.

Dior - Citrus.

Heart notes: Almond, Orange, Juniper Berries.  Top notes: Bergamot, Petit Grain, Lemon. Base notes: Cedar, Cypress, Galbanum, Caraway, Musk.

PR/Beauty Boxes:

Di Palomo - Wild Fig and Grape - This is a beautiful fragrance. Probably not a fragrance that young people would love but I do. If you would like to read my review of it then please click here.

This perfume is - Fruity.

Heart notes: Wild Fig, Orange Blossom, Mimosa. Top notes: Grape, Gardenia. Base notes: Sandalwood, Amber, Vanilla.

Roger and Gallet - Rose Imaginaire - A really really gorgeous rose perfume that lasts all day. If you would like to read my review of it then please click here.

This perfume is - Floral.

Heart notes: Jasmine and Violet. Top notes: Strawberry and Mandarin. Base notes: Patchouli, Sandalwood.

Versace - Vanitas - Given in one of my beauty boxes. How cute is the bottle! I love the scent but I would keep it purely for its cuteness! Review here.

This perfume is - Floral.

Heart notes: Tiare Flower. Top notes: Lime, Freesia. Base notes: Cedarwood, Tonka Bean.

I hope you found this post interesting. If you have any fragrance recommendations, please leave them in the comments below :)

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Le Nail Art in 08 Or Lame

Here we are with my second trial of the L'oreal Colour Riche Nail Art Wraps. I absolutely adored the first pack that I bought. You can see my review on them here. That is why I decided to try another pair,  though my opinions of these are slightly different.

I won't bore you with all the detail I put in the last post. If you want more information about these wraps then please head over to the post mentioned above. For this design of wrap specifically, I feel that they fit differently. I don't think my nails have changed shape so therefore the wraps must be different sizes because these didn't fit as well as the ones previous.

Furthermore, unlike the other ones these are embossed. At first it was intriguing but now it feels annoying. They just feel really uneven - like they are going to peel easier.

I much prefer the design of the first wraps as well. Initially my boyfriend figured that these would be nicer but I am pretty sure even he would agree that the others look a lot more clean and stylish. These are a bit busy to wear on all of your nails at once. Having said this I don't dislike them. In fact, far from it!

These are still the best nail wraps I have tried to date. I have already purchased another pack of the matte black with gold stones so that must say something about them. They are fun and seriously easy to use. The application is quick and simple. I would recommend them to any beauty lover.

Once I have tried my third pack I will be able to report back on the sizing issue in more depth. If you want to be kept up to date then it's best to follow me on twitter :) @edgeofbeauty7

Have you tried these nail wraps? What is your favourite design so far?

NOTD - Revlon Nail Enamel in 940 Facets of Fuchsia

Yay! This is so pretty. I think that I have found another favourite nail polish. They are seriously racking up now.

I've realised something about myself when it comes to nail polish. I don't know if you have already figured it out and I am just behind on this revelation but here it is - I either love a nail polish or I hate it. I know this sounds a bit obvious but hear me out. If I love it, I won't stop going on about it. I will wear it over and over and never get tired. If I hate it, I will try to get rid of it as quick as possible or I will simply bin it to make room for other competitors. Sounds bad, I know.

This is certainly going in the love pile. It's stunning. And I know that I am seriously behind in finding it but it's yet another buy from that infamous beauty sale I have been talking about so much recently. I did actually pick it up this time last year but something made sure I didn't buy it. I now wonder why I kept away so long. I have certainly been missing out on something amazing.

Wait, it gets better. This is what it looks like with two coats. That's right.. two! I love nail polishes that are quick and easy and look amazing. Well, tick, tick, tick. This is going to look great over the holiday season and I can't wait to flaunt it some more.

Have you tried any gorgeous polishes recently? Let me know in the comments below.

Benefit ChaCha Tint

I received this sample in a magazine and was intrigued to try it out. My favourite of the Benefit tints so far has been Posietint. I think that it is the most natural of them all and is the easiest to blend. On the other hand I'm not the tint's biggest fan. I have Benetint, the first in this line and don't really rate it all that much even though I know some people who completely adore it. I knew that Benefit had released a new coral version but didn't find myself interested in spending my money on it. I much prefer the Benefit box blushes if I were to invest in a cheek product. However, getting it with my magazine lead my intrigue in it and here we are.

My first impressions of this were that it was very orange and thicker than Benetint. I expected it to be more runny but I am relieved in all honesty that it's not. However, it still strikes me as rather orange. When you blend it out it starts to create a colour that is more sheer and easier to wear but you better work fast. Like all the other tints, there is no hanging about. They stain almost instantly so if you don't want it to look streaky or boxy, it is time to get your fingers to work.

I find that these aren't that easy to blend out. Within 20-30 seconds the liquid has dried and you are left with what you have - like it or lump it. This is one of the main reasons why I don't get on with this line of products and much prefer to use a powder blush as a replacement.

You can use this as a lip stain as well but frankly I can't see how that would work. At least Benetint and Posietint are the right shades. This orange colour blended out slightly on my pinkish red lips would lead me to look like I had eaten too much spaghetti bolognese - not flattering at all.

Am I alone in this reasoning? Let me know in the comments below if you love tints or hate them. My conclusion? I feel that I can buy other things with my £25. Each to their own opinion I guess.
