Tangle Teezer Compact Styler

I can not believe I have not invested in one of these sooner. If I had known how amazing they were, this little baby would have been at the top of of my shopping list. Luckily, the magazine I am interning at held a beauty sale yesterday and I stumbled across one then. I now have them to thank for introducing me to the wonders that is the best portable brush, or brush in general, that I will ever own.

I don't know how it works. It's like a little piece of magic. It may sound like am exaggerating but I'm really not. I am so excited about finding this because there is nothing I hate more than damaging my hair. After all, my hair is so thick and I am trying to grow it at the moment, so I want to keep it in good condition without breaking it.

I perhaps wouldn't of chosen the union jack flag as my favourite design to have but I'm not complaining. Overall I don't feel that the designs of these brushes are too brilliant so there aren't many other ones that I would have rather had - maybe just a plain pink one I guess.

Talking about the design - I like the fact that it has a cover for the bristles so that they don't get damaged. I wish that the cover went up the sides so that it didn't get dirty in my bag but oh well. I can't complain because I can't even do simple things with this brush. I am an idiot and it took me a little while to figure out how to get the cover off to start with. In my defence, my dad couldn't figure it out either. I didn't want to pull to hard in case that wasn't what I was meant to do and I broke it. Turns out that all it needed was a little encouragement and it popped right off.

So yes... in conclusion it's the best thing since sliced bread. It somehow runs through my hair, attacking all the knots without me feeling a thing. It leaves my hair feeling sleek and frankly, there is nothing else I could ask from a hairbrush.

JolieBox Review - Moa Balm

To me, this product is a lot like Vaseline. In fact I would probably call it a gritty Vaseline. It has the same slippery jelly feeling but with what feels like exfoliating beads in it. Very odd.

This balm is meant to be used for chapped skin that needs a little bit of TLC. Immediately that makes me think of my lips. I don't know why but my lip and skin in general has got so much drier this A/W than ever before. I find myself having to apply moisturiser like crazy and my lips always seem to be chapped. Therefore I have been using this as a lip balm for the majority. Lip balms are after all one of my favourite beauty products.

And for the lips, it is ok. Its not really moisturising, but then again I feel that Vaseline isn't either. It produces a greasy barrier which helps to prevent the wind from getting in but it doesn't really add moisture into the skin. I find that this wears off my lips really quickly as well and I'm left applying it every half an hour to an hour which is a little annoying.

Applying it on my skin is an odd feeling as well. It leaves it feeling a little bit greasy and over all I couldn't imagine smearing this all over my body as it suggests you do on the tub.

This product has left me feeling a little bit confused as to what it's aim is. I know that it can be quite useful to soothe burns or help with eczema but I don't have either of those so it's hard to give my opinion on how it works for these symptoms. Maybe if that ever happens to me I can tweet about my opinion on it. On the other hand, it says on the website that it's good as a post shave balm.. Well I don't shave my face but does it work on my legs?! Who knows.

If you want to find out more about this mystery product and are intrigued to try it yourself - maybe you suffer with eczema and fancy trying it out - you can find all the information you need at www.thegreenbalm.com

JolieBox Review - I love... Coconut Face Mask

Excuse the minor exagerations and halloween references...

If you want Halloween in a beauty product then go and pick up this face mask because it frightened both myself and my dad to death!

I don't know if it's because I've never used a peel-off-in-one mask before or what but it is definitely not an experience I will be rushing to try out again any time soon.

I received this product in my JolieBox a month ago and was determined to try it out. However, it got plonked in my draw and I have completely forgotten about it til now. When I rediscovered it last night I immediately put it on to see how it worked.

The directions read that you should apply it onto dry skin, wait for it to dry and then peel it off in one piece. Job done! Sounds simple enough. So I ripped the top of the sachet off with excitement and was a little spooked out by what I found. It was just a clear gloopy mess. I kid you not, it was stringy and messy and everything I try to avoid in a beauty product. I actually didn't know if the product had gone off or something. It was that bizarre. Needless to say I strode on in the name of beauty and applied it generously to my face. It was like applying clear stringy cheese. YACK!

So after I had got this.. stuff on my face I calmed down a little. It just looked like I had a mass of shiny gel on my face. There's nothing to worry about here! So I went and decided to leave it 10-15 minutes to dry and then attempt to take it off. Ten minutes later I looked in the mirror and half my face was hanging off! It looked like I had icicles dangling from my chin. I was a little freaked out to say the least. I also couldn't stop laughing and dangling my face over my dad which he did not appreciate one bit.

After messing about, I went to peel it off and my word it hurt! It was so tight to my face it was literally like peeling off a layer of skin. I now understand why the sachet told you to avoid getting any in your eyebrows - you'd probably end up with none left... (just kidding!)

Eventually I got all of the mask off and looked in the mirror. My skin looked really lovely. I was scared that it would be red and blotchy but it looked clear and amazing. It felt a bit tight but that was nothing that a little moisturiser couldn't solve. My face felt soft and suddenly the Halloween beauty experience was all worth while.

Having said this... I don't think I would rush out and buy it again. It was cool to try out once but not something I would use on a day to day basis.

If you have used this yourself then leave comments below on what you thought. I'm eager to know!

17 Mirror Shine Lipstick in Camisole

I am not digging this lipstick at all.

I discovered Mirror Shine lipsticks a while back when a fellow blogger recommended them to me. I bought Beehive at the time and absolutely fell in love with it. It was such a warm nude and looked so smooth and shiny on the lips. Therefore when I saw that 17 had release a couple of new shades I jumped on the bandwagon. They have also given the lipsticks a redesign and the new packaging is sleek and classic. It also holds a hidden mirror which is a great idea. Although every time I open the lipstick the mirror gets yanked out which is quite annoying.

Camisole looked like a really creamy beige nude - a lot like my new Pure Zen lipstick by Mac which is my favourite lipstick by far. I had high hopes for it. But it has let me down on all accounts because it's just too sheer and milky. It looks like a washout and the colour looks seriously blotchy on my lips. The picture above actually makes it look a lot better than it is but I assure you it is no Pure Zen.

I think I will just stick to Beehive next time. This range of lipsticks feel a bit hit and miss.

Do you feel the same? Have you tried these lipsticks? Let me know in the comments below.

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Le Nail Art in 09 Poudre D'Or

How amazing are these nail wraps! And to think that I nearly didn't pick these ones up as I like some others a lot more. I think it's a damn good job that I did pick them up and no doubt I'll be getting some more because these little things are amazing. They are the best nail wraps I have ever used and if they stay on for the 10 days, I will never wear nail polish again!

L'Oreal have been bringing out some corker beauty products recently and as you can see, this is no exception. The new range of nail wraps include 16 different styles that are to die for. I don't think that there is one single design that I wouldn't wear or try out. I think they are retailing at around the £8.99 mark which is perhaps a little expensive but that wouldn't put me off. I love them.

To apply, all you have to do is pick a sticker that fits your nail, peel it off, lay it on the nail and then file the end down to size. It's that easy! You don't need any nail varnish remover to help to sticking process - nothing! Plus, the nail wraps are actually the right size. This is a miracle. All nail wraps I have tried in the past have been the wrong sizes and I have had to cut them down to shape. These however are ready to go. No fuss. No hassle.

Seriously. Go get some whilst the 3 for 2 offer is still on at Boots. I promise you won't be disappointed. I will be tweeting over the next week about how long they are staying on my nails. If you are interested in that progress update, just follow me on twitter... @edgeofbeauty7

October JolieBox!

Let's see what I got in this month's box.

Apologies for the darker images. Whilst I'm interning in London I am not at home during daylight hours and have to take my pictures with unnatural light.

(1) Lov Organic - Lov is Beautiful - An organic herbal blend of white and green tea that's packed with antioxidants and zinc that have proven skincare benefits.

My Opinion - I actually don't like white and green tea which is a bit of a shame because these sound amazing. I know that zinc is great at drying out spots and antioxidants are always useful. I will probably be giving this to my boyfriend's sister and I will ask her to report back on what she thinks.

(2) Jason - Bee Healthier Lip Balm Stick - A naturally nourishing hand-bag ready lip balm to help maintain a plump and perfect pout.

My Opinion - Oh my life! I am a huge fan of lip balms but I absolutely can not stand the smell of this one. It must be personal preference as my mum loves it and I am giving it to her. As far as lip balms go, it works quite well. However, I can not see past the smell. Let me now if you feel the same if you got this in your box.

(3) Moa - The Green Balm - An intense, multi-purpose balm that gives moisture to chapped, dehydrated skin - suitable for sensitive skin.

My Opinion - Initially I thought it was going to be another one of those silly small samples that are pointless. However I think that this is actually a decent size on closer inspection. It smells a lot like Vicks but reminds me of Vaseline on first glance. I shall try it out further and give a better review in a few weeks.

(4) Ritessens - Exfoliant - Ritessens uses a powerful blend of natural plant extracts and Moroccan Argan Oil. Their products work wonders.

My Opinion - This looks really lovely. It smells lovely too. Unfortunately it will probably take a while for me to get a review of this up on the blog, as I like to try a skincare product for a month before I give my opinion. I feel that I have run a cycle with my skin after this period of time and can judge how it really works for me. What I can comment on at the moment is that the tube is quite plain. It reminds me a little of St Tropez packaging though I couldn't tell you why. It's great to get a full size product in the box so I'm happy about that.

(5) Iroisie - Son Parfait Ultimate BB Cream - With added SPF25, the natural pigments blend easily into the skin offering a buildable, flawless coverage.

My Opinion - These are a little annoying as they are small sachets and I find samples like this a little hard to try. However the concept of the product is intriguing. BB creams exploded onto the beauty scene this year and have not stopped coming. I have a few in my collection yet to try and this will be going with those. I like the fact that this is buildable but it will be interesting to see how the product copes with oily skin.

Overall I think that this box hasn't been one of the best. But it is still pretty great to get two full sized products and plenty of different things to try. It is just unfortunate that I don't like/can't use a couple of the products but you can't please everyone every time.

Did you get a JolieBox this month? Leave your comments and thoughts below :)

Book Worm #8 - 50 Shades Darker by E L James

I know that it has been a while since I have written a book worm post, but I have found it difficult to fit in time to read. Having said this, the lack of time hasn't been the only thing stopping me from writing this post. It has also been difficult to want to pick the book up and read it. I didn't overly enjoy the first one, so the prospect of having to read another two wasn't thrilling me.

However, I immediately realised that this book was going to be a lot better than the others as it had more of a plot line. E L James still repeats herself a lot during the book with various scenes that you would expect. However there is almost a hint of intrigue to this book. You start to wonder what might happen next which didn't happen for me in the first instalment.

Christian was never going to let Ana go easily. He has tempted her back with the promise of a new contract and she accepts. It becomes very apparent that Christian did not cope well on his own and this hurts Ana deeply. But she is soon to find out that trouble has been brewing and if it wasn't the contract that was going to bother her, it was going to be something else - a slightly off balance ex that can't let go of the past. Soon Ana is getting watched in her sleep and Christian has a new battle on his hands. This time it's not how to keep her with him, but how to keep her safe.

I liked how this book was a lot more light hearted and it seemed that the characters had more fun. Ana's subconscious makes me laugh quite a bit as she is witty and says some things that I am thinking myself which endears me to the book.

I had heard from a few people that they couldn't understand how James made a third book out of this series as there wasn't much more to say. However I disagree as the book is left on a cliff-hanger that has creeped me out a bit, but done it's job and made me want to read the next one. I have a habit of having to finish a book/series that I have started but it's nice to have the curiosity there to want to.

Realistically, I am ready to move onto another book now but watch this space as my third and final Fifty Shades review will be coming up next.

If you have any recommendations for other books for me to read, please feel free to leave them in the comments below :)

Blend Collective Hand Cream

With winter approaching, it's time to whack out those hand creams and prevent sore and cracking hands.

If I'm completely honest, my hands are getting dry and sore on my intern placement. I don't think they are used to it! Haha! However, today I got out my trusty hand cream and it came to save the day. (Speaking of internships... sorry that the pictures weren't taken in natural light. I have to leave the house before it gets bright outside :( )

I had actually never heard of Blend Collective* until I was offered to try this product by a PR company. It appealed to me the most because of the perfumed scents on offer. Anyone that knows me, knows I love perfume and I love hand creams that smell great all day long. Their hand creams are also made from 100% natural oils and they don't test on animals :)

The one I got offered to try has notes of Sandalwood, Frankincense, Cedarwood and Neroli (£12.50). Many of these are found in my favourite perfumes so this ultimately sold it to me straight away. On the other hand, when I tried it I definitely didn't expect it to be as strong as it was. This has the be the most perfumed hand cream I have ever tried. It does mellow throughout the day but hours later I could still smell it on my hands. It is a bit much at first but that definitely hasn't put me off.

The moisture lasts for a good few hours. Depending on what I am doing, I can actually just use this in the morning without reapplication - though it is a bit difficult to not apply more when the packaging is so fun to play with.

I would say I will let you into a little secret but you can probably already see from the pictures above. Regardless, the lid is not a lid! It doesn't come off! And this confused me somewhat for about a minute when I first received the product. I couldn't understand why the lid twisted but didn't release. Turns out that the cream is dispersed from the middle which is really quite a handy contraption. It means you'll never have problem with putting the lid back on with slippy hands! Clever.

Overall it's quite nice. They do sell different scents which could be worth checking out. But if you don't like strong perfume then you probably won't be into this hand cream.

NOTD - Maybelline Forever Strong Pro in 130 Rose Poudré

Apologies for the uneven nail lengths and messy application. I am actually literally leaving now to attend a family event today and thought that I would share with you a NOTD as I absolutely love my new Maybelline nail polish.

With the 3 for 2 on at Boots at the moment, every time I go in I am tempted by something new and pretty. Since Essie are included in this offer I had a hard time picking between polishes. It ended up being between this and another Essie and this one piped it to the post. I just thought that this would be a really classy nude colour that I could wear to work. It will always keep my nails looking prim and manicured. Though perhaps it wont today as all my nails decided to break and I didn't have time to sort them out.... #bbloggerproblems! haha.

The Forever Strong Pro nail polishes are a great line that do what they say on the bottle. These polishes are so chip resistant and look great for days on end. I would recommend them to any one of you. They also have some lovely autumn colours in their collection at the moment if you want to pop by and check them out :)

What's your favourite nail brand? Let me know in the comments below.

Simple Make-up Corrector Pen

This is a hard product to judge. On one hand it does exactly what it says on the tin. But on the other, you don't necessarily want it too.

Let me explain myself. I picked up this pen in the hopes that it would remove any mascara errors that I make underneath my eyes or near the lash line on my upper lids. It happens to all of us and it's a nightmare to try and remove sometimes without smudging black all over your face.

So, when I made this rookie mistake a few days ago, I reached for my trusty simple pen to remove the error. Initially I was SO impressed. I couldn't believe how it could target the error with such precision and get rid of it perfectly. However, on second glance I realised that it had removed both my mascara, and my concealer and I was left with an even more unsightly mark than the black smudge.

Now I don't really know what to say. The pen removes makeup from around the eyes... That's what it's meant to do! And that's what it did. I don't know why I expected it to remove just the mascara and not the foundation/concealer underneath it. It was a little hard to patch up my concealer after that but it was doable.

So this is a review purely for the people like me, who think miracles can happen. Ooopsies, no they can't.

Moral of the story? This is an amazing precision eye makeup remover but remember.. it removes everything!

Mac Limited Edition Marilyn Monroe Blush in Legendary

Welcome to the final post in my Mariyln Monroe series... unless I get any more products that is :P

We conclude with 'Legendary' blush which is a soft coral powder blush with a satin finish. This is the one that my boyfriend picked out for me when he was buying me a few bits and pieces. How great is he? :)

Like 'The Perfect Cheek', it is a very buildable colour but I like to dust it lightly on my apples as not to bear a line across my face. And again, it looks like I am hardly wearing any but I assure you that I am. I like how this warms up my face a little and although it is perhaps more suitable for summer, I love it all the same. I am not one to wear makeup just because it's in season and then switch because it's turning cold. I like to wear what I think looks nice and that includes random nail polishes. People may generally go for the daker shades on their nails in winter but if I want to wear a bright then I will. Haha.

It's hard to pick a favourite between the two Marilyn blushes because they are both quite different and gorgeous in their own ways. If you want a heads up, the beauty powder is also absolutely divine so if you can get your hands on that you are on to a winner. If you have tried these blushes or have read both of my blog posts then let me know in the comments below which one you prefer :)

I feel like I should do a FOTD with my Marilyn makeup. That might be an idea for next week. The Pure Zen liptstick I have definitely compliments this blush beautifully so I would be more inclined to wear these two together.

Again, if you know of any great Mac blushes or even blushes from other brands that you feel I should really give a try then please let me know and I will be sure to check them out :)

Aussie Take The Heat Leave-in Cream

I decided to buy this recently when I realised that I couldn't find my Take The Heat spray anywhere! I don't know if they have discontinued it or what so let me know if you have seen it. It basically does the same job but it is in a cream/gel formula.

I seem to love every Aussie product that I buy but this seems to be my least favourite if I'm honest. I just feel that this weighs down my hair a lot more than the spray does. Like the Redken Straightening Lotion, I decided to use this on it's own to see how it performs and it was just a little bit thick. It did make my hair feel quite soft but it also leads it to become more knotty. I don't really understand why.

It does protect my hair from the heat, don't get me wrong. But overall it just seems a little lacklustre when I use this. It feels a bit limp and lifeless. Perhaps if I mixed this product with my favourite leave in conditioner by Aussie it might work a little better but on it's own it doesn't stand too well in my eyes.

I think my aim would be to find that one product that does everything I want it to without me having to use a lot of different things to create the same effect. In fairness I have it down to roughly two or three products that I use on a regular basis and give me that gorgeous soft, sleek, shine but it's effort and sometimes I'm lazy when I'm in a rush. Isn't every girl?

So I'm afraid the hunt will continue but watch this space. As ever, any recommendations are welcomed :)

Mac Limited Edition Marilyn Monroe Blush in The Perfect Cheek

When the Marilyn collection came out, I naturally got drawn straight to the powder blushes available. I'm sure you wouldn't expect anything less from me! I managed to get my hands on both. A review of the other blush will be coming up later this week.

Today we have 'The Perfect Cheek' which is a neutral pink beige blush. It has a matte finish but that's ok. It's nothing that a little highlighter wont fix if that is the look you're aiming for. Personally I love the matte look as I tend to have oily skin (though its been drying out a lot recently). Having said this, Satin are my favourite.

I find that most Mac blushes are very buildable and the same can be said with this. I like to wear it quite soft and subtle as I don't like the look of a harsh line. However in the picture it looks like I'm wearing a lot less than what it looks like in person. Go figure.

I know that at £19 they are verging on ridiculous with the price tag but I am an absolute sucker for limited edition items and blushes in particular. I swear I will never get through all the blush that I own which is probably an absolutely terrible thing but I love to have choice. Plus I reason my splurging by  admitting that I only really buy Mac blush. I don't know why I discount everything else. Probably because most brands seem to add too much shimmer or the colours don't look right on me - etc! Benefit are pretty good but the box packaging can be a little annoying to fit in my makeup bag.

Please let me know of any Mac blushes you love and I will keep my eye open for them next time I am drooling at the counter :)

Vichy Normaderm 3 in 1 Cleanser, Scrub and Mask

I have had this product* for absolutely agessssss! I haven't tried it out for various reasons. First off, I wanted to finish the bottle of product I was already using. Secondly, my skin went into complete turmoil and I got spots. Therefore if I started trying this and my spots got worse I wouldn't really know whether to blame the product or just my skin going crazy. Then, my skin went really dry and after a while of it being like that I switched to this product to try and help prevent the dryness. I realised that the face wash I love using the most and have used for years (Clean and Clear Blackhead Scrub) is extremely high in alcohol. Although it had never made an impact on my skin before now, I wanted to prevent using it for fear it would dry my skin out further. This is why I swapped to the Vichy Normaderm 3 in 1 Cleanser. It has no alcohol, no parabens and no soap. I figured that if anything was going to help, it would be this.

This comes out as a thick green cream. It almost feels a bit clay-like. What I would say is that you really only need a little bit which makes this last forever! It has really fine beads in it which you can see from the picture. These help to gently exfoliate your skin and remove dead cells and impurities. Although it can be used as a mask, I must admit now that I have only ever used it as a cleanser and a scrub and therefore can only talk about my opinion on these points.

It did help to soothe my skin. After a while I stopped getting flakes and I felt that the product was really working. However I like to use skincare products for around a month before I do reviews because I feel that your skin has not regulated to the product until this period is up. This is when you can really decide how you feel about it. It has been just over a month since my initial use of this and the dry flaky feeling seems to have come back a bit. I don't really understand what's going on.

I don't know if I blame the product or whether my skin is just going through a change. I know many people say that your skin gets drier in winter but that has never happened to me. I always had oily skin regardless of the season and didn't really moisturise. When I discovered my Mac Mineralize Charge Water Moisture Gel, I started to take moisturising more seriously but I still can't say I do it every morning and night. However I tend to try and make a bigger effort when my skin is feeling extra tight and dry.

This scrub does leave my skin feeling extremely soft and smooth. It has a lovely smell and lathers up brilliantly. On all accounts I feel that it is a joy to use. However it is not regulating my skin how I want it too. Nor does it prevent the odd breakout or two.

So my opinion is a mixture and I don't feel that it will change dramatically any time soon. I do like using it and I am sure I will continue to use it until it is gone. But with regards to helping my skin out of its turmoil stage, it's been found lacking.

If you have any opinions or advice on what it could be or what I should do then be sure to let me know in the comments below :)

Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara

Yay! It seems that I have finally found a mascara that lives up to the amazing ones made by L'oreal.
As far as I was concerned up til now, if you wanted to buy a high street mascara, you bought a L'oreal Paris one. They are by far the best ones to buy as they never fail to provide excellent colour, length and volume. However I was intrigued by this when I saw it because even though I have never tried the foundation versions, I had heard great things and figured that this would be similar.

One of my best friends bought it first to test it out. She gave me a very vague opinion of it but said that she did like it which made my intrigue spike even further. Then, when Boots started their 3 for 2 on cosmetics again, I figured there was no better time to take the plunge and get one myself.

I soon found out that the brush was amazing! It was really long and the plastic spikes were great at catching every lash. I was actually quite shocked when I realised that a few lumps managed to wiggle their way on the to mascara brush as you can see towards the handle on the picture. This was really strange but didn't hamper the performance of the product which is the main thing.

It coated my lashes beautifully and made them long and keep their curl. As you can see, I had no problem with clumping and this is true to be said with added layers. Above I only had one layer of mascara but I have built this up with two or three and not had any problems.

Personally, I feel that this mascara lives up to many that L'oreal have made and I am very pleased to now feel that I have choice on what product to go for on the high street.

Have you tried this mascara? Let me know in the comments below and tell me how it worked for you :)

Mac Limited Edition Marilyn Monroe Lipstick in Pure Zen

Welcome to the first of my three reviews about the Marilyn Monroe collection by Mac. To start us off I thought I would write about this lipstick as I simply can't get enough of it and I've only had it for a week!

My boyfriend bought this for me when he realised how besotted I was with the whole collection. I hadn't actually seen any of the items in person but i'd drooled over the online images. Therefore I actually can't thank my boyfriend enough for picking this lipstick to purchase as it's absolutely stunning and I seem to be wearing it every day. It's a really perfect nude colour - one that doesn't make me look dead and washed out. It's described as a frosted warm nude on the website but I would describe it as more of a creamy soft pink. Extremely flattering.

I know that since we are going into A/W, lip colours are going berry and we're meant to be making more of a statement. However I tried that recently with a Revlon lipstick and it really didn't suit me, so I'm fine with rocking the nude a little longer. At least until Christmas is here and I can whack out the Kate Moss red on a casual basis :)

If you have been able to get your mitts on one of these wonderful lipsticks, let me know in the comments below. From what I understand, many are now sold out and I'm frankly shocked that I, or should I say my boyfriend, got there in time to get anything at all!
