Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H

I can not remember the last time I wore gel eyeliner. I used to wear it religiously when I had my Mac one but then that dried out and I started to get lazy. It was so much easier to just leave it. Some days I wouldn't even put mascara on. Having said this, I do feel that if you just add a lick of mascara it will complete your look to a whole new dimension - as does eyeliner.

This is why I picked this one up when there was 3 for 2 at Boots. I didn't know much about it but I didn't care. I wanted to try something new and this was the first one I saw. I liked that it was in a frosted glass pot and that was pretty much what sold it to me. I know that a lot of high street brands have come out with their own gel liners recently and I think there's a reason for that. I think they have realised that in many wears, it is the best type of eyeliner to wear. It stays in place better, is more hard wearing and can ultimately be easier to use depending on who you are and what you like.

If I had to organise what order liner I would prefer, gel would be first and then liquid, with pencil last. Urgh! Hate pencil liners. They smudge and look horrible.

So here we have it and I am reasonably impressed and unimpressed about certain aspects. As mentioned before I like the packaging and I think it's great that it comes with a brush. However the brush is the wrong shape if you ask me, which makes applying the eyeliner a complete nightmare. I know that I am a little bit out of practise but I'm sure this process could be made easier with a thinner, pointier brush.

The gel stays on well, but I wish it was blacker. As you can see from the picture above, it looks blacker on my eye than it does on my hand. Over all I just don't think it's black enough. I want a real, true black like I would get from a jet black liquid liner or indeed my Mac one.

In general, it's good. If I didn't want to splurge out on a designer pot then this would be a more than acceptable substitution. However, I would rather pay that extra money and get the best of the best, than settle for something I'm not 100% wowed by. After all, you get what you pay for.

If you have any opinions about this liner, or any other high street version then please leave your comments below. I am always interested to hear what other people think :)

  1. This was what I initially wanted to try when gel liners came out but didn't find it so I went for This Catrice Gel Liner and I was super impressed!
Guess I shouldn't even try the Maybelline one then
