NOTD - Bourjois Paris 1 Second Gel Gloss

This was actually an accident buy as I was looking for a clear gel gloss. I loved the look of gel nails after I had a gel manicure I few years back. However the upkeep can be quite expensive so I wanted to find an at-home cheaper alternative. This is when I came across a bunch of reviews for Bourjois Gel Polishes. I immediately had to have one, but unfortunately I hated all the colours. That's why I jumped at the chance of this polish when I saw it. On the other hand, I thought that this was going to be a clear gloss and not a mandarin red.

The reason that I thought this was a clear gloss was because all of the other nail polishes were opaque. I  reasoned that this would be see through as it was transparent - a reasonable expectation. It would have never crossed my mind that the gloss was orange!

Therefore I did my french manicure when I got home and waited for it to dry perfectly, before applying this polish on top.

Yes! You can imagine my face. I was NOT best impressed. It had taken me a while to get my nails perfect, so to ruin them straight away was a smidge on the annoying side.

However, the quality of the nail polish is great. I wouldn't say that it was exactly like a gel polish because it's buy no means as thick. But it does resembles the shine that you get from a gel manicure so I guess it stands up to the name in that category.

I really don't like the colour of this polish on my nails though and I don't think that I would buy another one of these polishes simply for the price (£6). If it resembled a gel manicure more, I would be tempted but I can get the high shine from my Seche Vite Top coat with any nail polish.

Have you tried any polishes from this range? What do you think?

  1. How weird that it turned out to be that colour?! I've seen these so many times in Boots, but think I'll be sticking to my trusty Seche Vite :)

    1. the bottle is quite cool but it's annoying to store because of it's shape and i'm sure you get less polish because of the shape too! Nice to be different though :) xxo

  6. Me too! i thought it was going to be a clear super shiny polish hence having 'gel texture' and 'shine booster' on the bottle! however, i have to say i do love the colour, great with a tan as i love coral shades in the summer but i am still searching for a super shiny topcoat that lasts.

  9. This works amazingly over red & leaves a long lasting gel nail effect...use it over other dark colours too and it works just as well!
