Japonesque Pro Angled Foundation Brush

This is unfortunate to say but I am not this brush's biggest fan.

The Japonesque Pro Angled Foundation Brush* (314) aims to give greater precision with its distinctive tapered edge, whilst minimising facial pores and fine lines.

Well, first things first, the brush is made very well. The handle is lovely and reminds me of a Mac style brush. I have had no problems with bristles falling out. It keeps its shape and generally feels like a high quality brush.

But when it comes to applying my foundation I just don't like it. Personally, I much prefer my Sigma F80 as I like to buff my foundation in to get a flawless finish.

When I first started applying liquid foundations I used the Mac 190 which is very similar to this but without the tapered edge. I loved it for a while but my face always looked cakey. I went to look into why this may be and changed numerous different things about the way I applied the liquid. Ultimately it was when I changed my brush to a buffing brush that things improved. I am not a fan of the flat foundation brushes in general, so it's not just this one I don't get along with. I think it depends on what you are comfortable with and this brush could work well for someone who likes this style. After all the quality is great, but at the end of the day it just isn't for me.

I also found the angled edge as a bit of a hindrance. I think it takes a while to learn the techniques of how to use this brush effectively. The concept of it is great, but when you find something that works for you, you generally stick to it and therefore I think I'll stick to my Sigma.

How do you apply your foundation? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. I'd agree with you there! I love buffing brushes and hate the traditional foundation brush. I can't seem to find a high street/affordable buffing brush though, any recommendations?
