Powders for Oily Skin.

My friend Sophie asked me to write a post on good powders for oily skin. This got me thinking as I don't tend to use different powders because ones I have used in the past haven't been very good. After doing some research however, I have come up with a couple of powders that I use regularly and a list of suggestions recommended by others. I will then cover a few I have used that I would suggest you steer clear from.

First and foremost, I strongly believe that liquid foundation only makes oily skin worse. It doesn't matter if you use a setting powder in my eyes - it's just going to look shiny and cakey. I only speak from my personal experience. There may be some foundations out there that will work for oily skin but I prefer using what I use now because it works and well... why stray from something that works for you?
Channel Vitalumiere Aqua and Mac Studio Fix Fluid are claimed to be ok for oily skin so if you're persistent, maybe try them out.

Back to powders. First I will start off by talking about what works for me. I use Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in NC20. It's amazing. I've been using it for a few year now and I don't see a reason why I would ever stop using it. I start off with a matt finish at the beginning of the day and by the time I reach the end it turns into a soft satin texture. If I get oily during the day I can just use my Mac Blot Film and it removes the oil without me having to use any excess blotting powder - definitely my number one. It gives buildable coverage so perfect to cover any scars you may have from acne.

Another I would recommend is Mac's Transparent Powder. This works wonders if you are trying to set liquid foundation or blot during the day. I tend to use it with my Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer and it helps me achieve the matt finish I crave. It leaves you skin feeling as soft as cashmere and the product lasts for ages! I do believe that Mac released a pressed one (linked above) which is will probably be handier than the loose one I own. (Review on this combination here!)

Another Powder I have heard that is good is Maybelline Dream Matt Pressed Powder. I can't talk from personal experience because I don't think I have ever tried it but it may be worth a go. Missglamourazzi uses this and swears by it so it can't be bad :)

BeautyCrush also mentions her love for the Sephora Pressed Powder. She uses this as a finishing powder but you can also use it as a foundation for a flawless finish. Unfortunately if you are in the UK you can only order this on the French Sephora site.

Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder is another suggestion. Again I have not tried it myself but it has been tested by girls with skin like mine and they seem to enjoy the finish that it gives them.

I would stay away from Rimmel Powders. I don't have a very good history with these and wouldn't recommend them.

I also used L'Oreal Paris True Match powder in college and it looks extremely cakey. I think it would only work if you are slightly oily, to just dust a bit on lightly as a set but not as a foundation.

Hope this helps Sophie! And I hope this helps everyone else who suffers with oily skin :)

NEW Rimmel Mascara - Scandaleyes!

Rimmel have released their new mascara called Scandaleyes to the high street. When I nipped to Superdrug for some necessities, this automatically caught my eye. The vibrant orange tube was everywhere! Cleverly packaged due to the fact that Halloween is just around the corner. I'm a sucker for new mascara's so thought I would try it out even though I don't need a new one at the minute.

The brush is massive! That's actually a quality I don't like. It is really hard to coat the lashes because the brush knocks the skin around the eye and on the side of the nose when trying to get the inner corner. Furthermore, trying to coat the bottom lashes became absolutely impossible! In the end I came to a decision that there was no way that I could use this mascara and so left them bare. The bristles were to soft and it felt as if they just bent or were barely there. This made application harder still.

Here is what my lashes look like before mascara - short and barely noticeable!

After the application:

Well I'm not overly excited about this mascara. It doesn't do anything overwhelming that makes it stand out. There was some voluming but not enough to call it a voluming mascara. The same goes for length. I felt that all this mascara did was just emphasize my existing lashes by coating them with black to make them noticeable. I wouldn't recommend people to spend their money on this mascara.
If you want a good high street one I would strongly recommend L'oreal Telescopic or L'oreal Double Extension Mascara.

Maybelline Coloursensational Lipstick Swatches & Reviews.

Maybelline's new lipstick range is one that I have come to fall in love with. Not really being a lipstick lover myself, I tend to steer away from any product like this for the fear of feeling that dried-out sensation on my lips. I much prefer lipsticks cousin, lipbalm. Having said this, these one's seem to be slightly different. The way they are formulated leaves my lips feeling moisturized instead of dry. Additionally, they come in a range of colours that I personally adore. I'm not one to pull off a shocking red lipstick or anything terribly vampy I'm afraid, so the subtleties of certain shades they have created, such as the two below, are perfect for giving a little bit of life to my face.

To the left we have shade 108 Pink Pearl, and to the right 822 Rose Pearl. Similarly named, and similar looking in some ways. 108 is a much more frosty finish that gives an icy colour pay off whilst 822 is slightly more glittery shade that is much sheerer than the previous. As you can see from the pictures, 822 is also a lot more peach toned than 108 which suits my pale complexion a lot better.

The packaging is cute and stylish - one thats lovely to whip out of your handbag and apply during the day. Over all these are two wearable winter lipsticks that I will enjoy wearing in the months to come.

NOTD - OPI Muppets Collection - 'Gettin' Miss Piggy With It!'

Finally, the OPI Muppets Collection has been released in the UK. Observant as he is, my boyfriend realised how much I loved this colour in my previous post and decided to get it me as a small gift. I have to say that this is NOT the easiest nail polish to work with. Unlike what it looks like in the bottle, it is extremely thin. It took me 10/11 coats to build it up to what it is in the pictures. It is beautiful once it is done, but for someone like me who has low patience, it wasn't great. It's also really difficult to get a neat finish as the polish doesn't go on evenly due to the glitter being so chunky. However, no one can deny how lovely it looks when it's finished. Definitely worth spending the time over. I sealed mine with Seche Vite top coat which only made the glitter more vibrant. A great party colour for Christmas.

October Boudoir Prive Box

Glad you have come to enjoy my first Boudoir Prive box with me :) Lets get started!

How gorgeous does this look?! Wow!

Ok i'm seriously excited:

(1) Cetuem Illuminating Mask and Cetuem Creme de Lite (£25 for 50g/£45 for 50ml) Listed as one of the top 100 beauty brands by Harpers Bazaar, Cetuem is a breakthough in skincare. These products will help you maintain a youthful complexion whilst brightening the skin and eliminating uneven skin tones. I am offically super excited about this. This is the first kind of skincare that I have recieved in a monthly beauty box that is actually relievant to my skintype. I have hyperpigmentation so I am hoping that over time this kind of product will reduce the appearance of it. Thumbs up here Boudoir Prive!
(2) Korres Quince Body Butter (£12.50 for 150ml) An extremely rich and soothing cream for dry and chapped skin. The combination of vegetable oils has excellent compatibility with the skin, allowing for easy absorption. It provides uplifiting and long lasting moisture. I am already a well known user of Korres products! I have the Guava Lip Butter and my boyfriend brought me the Guava shower gel when I came to University. I sure this will live up to the high standard that the previous two have set. Second great product in the box.
(3) Leonor Greyl Huile de Palme (£24 for 95ml) Huile de Palme is a pre-shampoo conditioner that will soften and nourish dry and damaged hair. From a range of hair care products that use only natural ingredients, delicate aromas and plant extracts. Another winner! I am falling in love with this monthly subscription. I can't believe that I didn't get it last month as well because it appears to have been great then too. This product reminds me of the Glossybox Nuxe hair oil. Extremely excited to try this out and see how soft it makes my hair. Hopefully I wont react with it because I have super sensitve skin.
(4) Memo Paris Les Eschappees (£69 for 30ml) Memo is a new Paris-based niche line of fragrances created by Clara Molloy. The samples are a mix of three ranges; Les Echappees, Les Orientaux and Voyages Naturels. Memo invites us on a sensory journey and aims to evoke ideas of dream and travel. This one isn't so much for me. I think I am just particularly picky with my perfumes because I haven't really liked any of the perfumes I have been sent in the month subscription boxes. However I have to say this is the nicest one so far and it has a spray cap instead of a pour so thats a plus. A mature scent but still lovely.
(5) Rose & Co Rose Petal Salve (£5 for 20g) This rose scented salve soothes chapped lips and dry skin. It can also be worn as a glossy coat over lipstick, an eyegloss, on brow bones or mixed with a shimmer powder to give a glamorous glow. I think I have seen this around but never tried it before. Lip balms are my forte and my most loved lip product. I like the idea that this is also multi purpose and you can also use it for unruly brows. Smells lovely - thumbs up!
(6) StudioMakeup Liner Style Pen Black (£12 for 1.1ml) For intense eye definition this deep black Liner Style Pen glides on for a long lasting and crease-proof line. The slim and soft tip provides precision in a single stroke. If you have read my blog recently then you know I have been building up my eyeliner colleciton again after having run out. I have just repurchased my favourite pencil liner so I was exstatic to now have a liquid liner too. Seems to be quite highly pigmented as well and is in really convinient packaging.

This box is AMAZING!

NOTD : Rimmel London 60 Seconds - Blue My Mind

In reference to my Nail Tattoo Tutorial using Barry M Navy Nail Paint, my friend Becky (Check out her blog here!) went though her collection and found me this blue which she thought I might like to try as an alternative. If you have already read my previous post then you will understand completely when I say this is the best brush I have ever used. The '1 second xpress brush' is amazing. It fans out to cover all of your nails and makes it easy as pie to create a perfect neat finish. The colour is pretty opaque but I used two coats to deepen the shade. Unfortunately this colour hasn't stole my heart like the Barry M colour did. This one is more of a royal blue. This colour kind of annoys me because I would argue that it's purple not blue, but it is named blue after all. It dried really quickly as the name suggests and I would definitely recommend it. However it just doesn't fill the disappointing void that Barry M Navy left.

Appologies for the lighting. I painted my nails at night so that I could give it back to my friend the next morning.

Andrea Fulteron Colour Layering Trio in GoldFinger!

This is one of the new selection of layering nail polishes by Andera Fulerton. 'Gold Finger' includes a shimery white/cream nail polish with shimery gold one. You can buy them from Superdrug for about £7.99. I picked this one to show you as I thought that it was very in season as well. We all know that mixing metals is a great way to be stylish this A/W. Well mixing these two colours will create a gorgeous shimery silver colour with what I would describe as a blue undertone. It's really gorgeous and is a great way to subtly be on trend.

Here are my nails with two applicaitons of the gold nail varnish. The application of these polishes are a dream. They are extremely easy to apply. My only disappointment is that they aren't very opaque so if you wish to wear them on their own (which you can), you need a few coats.

I decided to add just the cream colour to my ring finger to give the nails a bit of interest and i think it works really well. Obviously you could put it on all the nails or simply wear the cream colour on its own or layered over one of your other nail polishes.

Great buy!

John Frieda 3 Days Straight.

Frizz-Ease 3 day straight is a spray that you put in your hair when it is wet, and then blow dry it and straighten as per usual. It works as a heat protectant, but it also has keratin in it which is meant to help keep your hair straighter for longer. To test this product, I sprayed it in my hair and styled it as per usual, then took pictures for the next three days, showing what my hair looked like. Here's my review on it and the pictures I took :)

This is what the product looks like. When I first saw it I thought that it was a pretty small bottle for the £6.99 you pay for it. It recommends that you spray it 7-14 times through your hair to start with and more if needed. So as you can imagine, you run out of this product quite quickly. The smell of the spray was really nice, as was the application. The mist was fine and spread over a wide section of hair so it was easy to attack all places within one go.

Here are my daily pictures. Please excuse what I look like. I took them straight away in the morning so I look a bit like a gorm. Haha!

Day 1                                              Day 2                                               Day 3

Day 1 = As you can see my hair is pretty straight. The spray made it so easy to blow dry my hair into the straight style I wanted. This has never been possible before without tonnes of effort. I was extremely impressed by this. The straightening process with my GHD's afterwards was so much easier. It took me 5 minutes to straight all of my hair, and let me emphasize that my hair is extremely thick. I automatically thought that this was my new favourite product.
Day 2 = Well I was very disappointed. As you can see my hair is really not that straight anymore. The ends where flicking out all over the place. My hair was so wavy in places at the back and I wasn't very happy at all. I think that if I had straightened my hair at this point, then it would have been easy to style because of the spray and would have held well. However, the point of my little experiment was to see how well the spray worked on its own  - which seemed to be not very well!
Day 3 =  An improvement from day 2. I personally put this down to me sleeping on my hair and therefore flattening it against the pillow and not due to the product itself. It still wasn't perfect but it was manageable in my eyes.

So overall, I don't think this product works wonders on it's own. Having said this, I still think that it is a good product for helping you to get ready quicker in the morning. It enables you to use less heat on your hair because the styling processes become a lot quicker with this product. For that point, I think that I would repurchase this. However, don't be fooled that this product will work miracles. If you want pin straight hair, heat is the only way to go.

October Glossybox!

Here is my October Glossybox! So lets see what's inside?!

So let's see what everything actually is:

(1) Dermalogica Age Smart Multi Vitamin Thermafoliant (£40.50 for 75ml Full Size) - A powerful thermal skin polisher that combines physical and chemical exfoliants. My skin is really sensitive to new products so I will have to try this out on a small part of my skin and see if it works for me. The idea of being a polisher reminds me of my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish that I loved but couldn't use so this might be a great backup.
(2) Dermalogica Age Smart Multi Vitamin Power Recover Masque (£33 for 70ml Full Size) - A powerful masque of concentrated antioxidant vitamins to help skin recover and regenerate. This is an interesting concept. It looks like an orange creamy mask which smells really nice. Looking forward to trying this out as well.
(3) Leighton Denny Expert Nails Colour and Care in Sex Kitten (£11 for 12ml Full Size) - Beautifully groomed hands and feet are always in fashion and with Leighton Denny Nail Colours, its easy to keep them that way. Well personally I don't really love the colour and doubt I'll get much use out of it. If anyone fancies a swap then let me know.
(4) Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Moray (£13 for Full Size) - Stila's highly pigmented, waterproof eyeliner glides on delivering intense, vibrant colour with staying power. I don't often wear coloured eyeliners but maybe the green will bring out the blue in my eyes. We shall see.
(5) Robert Piguet Eau de Parfums in Visa, Fracas and Calypso (£65 for 50ml Full Size) - Fracas, Visa and Calypso are three Signature scents from the 'most Parisian of fashion designers.' Personally, I don't like any of these scents. They smell to old and musky for me. It's not budging me off my Miss Dior Cherie and Daisy Eau So Fresh post just yet.
(6) Dermalogica Age Smart Renewal Lip Complex with Beauty Bag (£22.50 for 1.75ml Full Size) - A daily treatment that restores the delicate lip tissue. Well I've just been raving about the Elemis Lip Revive balm and so it will be interesting to see if this product lives up to the standard that one has set. A review to come, no doubt. The Beauty Bag on the other hand is great quality and I'm sure it will come in handy :)

Haul : Hollister, Allsaints, John Frieda, Maybelline etc.

My boyfriend came down to visit me at uni last week, and whilst he was staying I became very attached to his burgundy Hollister hoodie. I had no choice but to go out and splurge on one myself and I absolutely love it. It is ridiculously soft and comfy and looks great with blue skinnies for jeggings. The inside of the hood is a soft cream furry texture - that's my favourite part. I'm sure this will keep me snuggled up in the cold months ahead.

I also went to Allsaints whilst he was here and found this gorgeous top (excuse the creasing). It's definitely my kind of style and i love wearing it with black skinny jeans and heels, or like I did yesterday, wear it with shorts, tights, and a leather jacket. The two skulls moulded into a heart design I feel is very subtle. It doesn't make the piece look to dark, but still gives it a cool edge. It also comes in white with black print if you are interested.

Finally for clothes, I brought this top for Primark which turned out to be a bargain in the end. It was marked up as £8 but when I got to the till they only charged me £2.50 for it! I thought that this would be really nice to layer up in the winter or wear casually around the house with some joggers. The burgundy colour is what drew me to it in the first place because I have really been loving this shade this season. The front is block colour, but as you can see from the picture below, the back is striped. The lighter sections are see through which gives the top a bit of interest and makes it unique. I can't wait to start wearing this piece.

Into beauty, I saw an advert for this product on the TV and have been meaning to pick it up for a while but never have. Finally I managed to get my hands on some after a little searching. I haven't used this product yet but will be testing it out later on today and there will be a full review on my opinions when I have.

£6.99 or 2 for  £7.50 at Boots now!
This product caused me a bit of trouble. When I went to lunch with a few girls from Uni, I saw my friend Sophie wearing this colour lipstick, or what I thought was this one. I asked her what it was and then a couple of days later went out to buy it from Boots so that I could share it with you guys because it was so beautiful. It ended up that I had brought the wrong one, and the actual one that she had is down below, which I went to get on a further shopping trip. Drama, drama, drama! Swatches of this to come, once I have used them a bit.

This is the actual one she had, down below!

I was looking through my make up collection the other day and realised that I didn't seem to own a single eyeliner! This shocked me because I went through a stage of using Mac Studio Gel Eyeliner for a long while and I loved it. I also owned the Carbon Gloss one from L'oreal Paris and the Rimmel one shown below. I don't know where all of these products went, but when I realised I was running low on eyeliner, I shot out to by myself some. This is my trusty black pencil eyeliner repurchase.

Finally we have this interesting product that I am excited to try. I was so pleased with the nail tattoos that I picked up the other day, that I thought I would buy another product from this brand to try out. These are a couple of nail polishes that you can either wear on their own or layer to create a new cool colour! A review of this will also be up soon so watch out for it!

This will probably be my last haul for a while as I have started to buy Christmas presents and if I shared them on here people would know what I bought them! haha. However, I will be doing a christmas gift guide series to help give ideas on what to buy people for Christmas so watch out for those! Talk to you in my next blog!
